700 CAMBRIDGE. John Arrowsmith, S.T.P., master of St. John's coUegej by the same authority was translated hither in 1653. John Wilkins**^, S.T.P., succeeded in 1658-9. He was afterwards bishop of Chester in 1668. Henry Ferne, S.T.P., patent dated 29th June 1660, and he was admitted 3rd Aug. 1660. He was bishop of Chester for five weeks in 1662. John Pearson, S.T.P. (his patent dated 10th April 1662), was admitted 14th April 1662, and in 1673 he also became bishop of Chester. Isaac Barrow, S.T.P., was admitted 27th Feb. 1672-3; died 4th May 1677, aetat. 47, and was buried in AVest- minster Abbey. The Hon. John North was admitted 12th May 1677. The Hon. John Mountague was admitted 3rd May 1683, and in 1699 ^^'^^ made dean of Durham. Richard Bentley, S.T.P., was admitted jst Feb. 1699— 1700. Archdeacon of Ely, and keeper of the royal library at Westminster. Ob. nth July 1742. Robert Smith, D.D., professor of astronom(/ and ex- perimental jyhilosophi/., succeeded Dr. Bentley 20th July 1742. Ob. 2nd Feb. 1768. John Hinchcliffe, D.D., appointed 16th Feb. 1768, vice Dr. Smith. He became bishop of Peterborough in 1769. He resigned in 1789. Thomas Postlethwaite, B.D., appointed i6th June 1789, vice the bishop of Peterborough resigned. Ob. 4th May 1798.
