He was superior of the theological seminary at Fordham; and afterward was president of St. Francis Xavier college of New York City. He erected the church of St. Michael in Troy, N.Y. He died in 1880 in Troy, N.Y. Driscoll, Daniel A., congressman. In 190911 he was a representative from New York to the sixty-first congress as a republican.

Driscoll, Michael Edward, lawyer, congressman, was born Feb. 9, 1851, in Syracuse, N.Y. Since 1879 he has been actively engaged in the practice of law in his native city; and he has gained prominence in conducting negligence

actions against large corporations at Syra1899cuse, N.Y. In 1911 he was a representative from New York to the fifty-sixth, fifty - seventh, fiftyeighth, fifty-ninth, sixtieth and sixty-first congresses as a republican.

DriscoU, William Edgar, physician, surgeon, was born Oct. 6, 1858, in Muncie, Ind. In 1883 he graduated from Purdue university with the degree of B.S.; and in 1886 graduated from the Medical college of Ohio with the degree of M.D. He subsequently graduated from a post-graduate course at the Medical school and hospital of Chicago, 111. He has attained success in his profession in Goldfield and Cripple Creek, Col.; in 1893 was a delegate to the first Pan-American medical congress at Washington, D.C.; and is now county physician of Teller county. Col. He is medical examiner for the National life insurance company of Chicago, the Germania life insurance company and of numerous other life and fraternal insurance companies. He is railroad surgeon for the Colorado Southern, for the Colorado Springs and Cripple Creek district, and for the Florence and Cripple Creek railroads. He is a member of the leading medical associations and fraternal societies. He is the author of a Mild Epidemic of Monograph entitled Smallpox; and other valuable contributions to medical literature.

Drisius, Samuel, clergyman, linguist, was born in 1603. He was pastor of the Dutch church in London; and could preach in Ger-

man, Dutch, French and English. On account of his knowledge of English he was employed as envoy to the governor of Virginia, to negotiate a treaty. He died about 1673. Drisler, Henry, educator, author, was bom Dec. 37, 1818, on Staten Island, N.Y. He was a professor at Columbia college in 1843-94. The Drisler professorship of philology was founded in his honor. His Greek and English Lexicon has long been a stand-

Mount Vernon, 111. Since 1903 he has been pastor of the People's church of Chicago, 111. He is the author of Samson and Shylock; Nepenthe; and Purple Peaks Remote. Dromgoole, George C, lawyer, state senator, congressman, was born in Virginia. He served for many years in the two houses of the state legislature, and was president of the state senate. He was a member of the second constitutional convention of Virginia. In 1835-41 and 1843-47 he was a representative from Virginia to the twenty-fourth, twenty-fifth, twenty-sixth, twenty-eighth, and twenty-ninth congresses. He died April in 1858 in

Dromgoole, William Allen, journalist, auwas born about 1860 in Murfreesboro, Tenn. He was engrossing clerk in the Tennessee house of representatives and state senate in 1883-89. He is the author of Heart of Old Hickory; Valley Path; The Farrier's Dog and His Fellow; and other works. Drone, Eaton Sylvester, journalist, author, was born Jan. 35, 1842, in Zanesville, Ohio. He was a legal writer on the staff of the New York Herald in 1880; and later became editor-in-chief. He is the author of The Law of Property in Intellectual Productions, Embracing Copyright and Playright.

Droppers, Garrett, educator, college president, was born April 13, 1860, in Milwaukee, Wis. He was educated in the public schools of Milwaukee ; and attended Harvard and Berlin universities. For several years he was Instructor of latin and English in the Milwaukee high school; and in 1889-99 filled the chair of political economy and finance at the university of Tokyo, Japan. In 18981907 he was president of the state university of South Dakota; and filled the chair of political economy and finance in that institution. Since 1907 he has lectured on political economy in the university of Chicago. Drouet, Robert, actor, playwright, author, was bom in 1870 in Clinton, Iowa. For the past five years he has been leading man in several stock companies in Philadelphia and Chicago, He is the author of plays entitled
