Dunlap, Robert Pinckney, lawyer, congressman, governor, was born Aug. 15, 1796, in Brunswick, Maine. He was a Maine member of the state legislature; in 1823-33 was a

senator,

he presided over that body four years. In 1833 he was a member of the executive council

of

Maine;

in

1834-38 was the sixth governor of Maine. In 1843-47 he was a representative sent to the twenty-eighth and the

twenty-ninth congresses. During 1848-49 he was collector of customs at Portland; and in 1853-57 was postmaster of Brunswick. He died Oct. 20, 1859, in Brunswick, Maine. Dunlap, Samuel Fales, lawyer, author, was born in 1825 in Boston, Mass. He graduated from Harvard in 1845; and practiced law in Boston, Mass. He is the author of Origin of Ancient Names; and Vestiges of the Spirit History of Man. Dunlap, William, dramatist, artist, author, was born in 1766 in Perth Amboy, N.J. He was a theatrical manager of New York City. He was the author of Life of Charles Brockden Brown; The American Theater; History of New York; History, Rise, and Progress of the Arts of Design in the United States; Thirty Years Ago, a. novel; New Netherlands, Province of New York; The Father, a comedy; and Leicester, a tragedy. He died Sept. 28, 1839, in

City.

Dunlap, William C, congressman, was born Tennessee. In 1833-37 he was a representative from Tennessee to the twenty-third and twenty-fourth congresses. In 1839 he was United States minister to Mexico. He died in Tennessee. Dunlop, George Kelly, clergyman, bishop, was born Nov. 10, 1830 in Ireland. He was missionary at St. Charles, Mo.; and for seven years was rector of Grace church of Kirkwood, Mo. This latter place he held until his election to a bishopric. In 1880 he became missionary bishop of New Mexico and Arizona. He died March 13, 1888, in New Mexico. Dunlop, James, lawyer, jurist, was born March 28, 1793, in Georgetown, D.C. In 1838 he was appointed judge of the United in

States circuit court; was made assistant judge in 1845 and was chief justice in 185663. He died May 6, 1872, in Georgetown. Dunlop, James, lawyer, author, was born in 1795 in Pennsylvania. He was a Pittsburg lawyer; and prominent as an opponent

He was the author of Laws ot Pennsylvania, 1700-1853, and Digest of the General Laws of the United States. He died April 9, 1856, in Baltimore, Md. to slavery.

Dunmore, Earl of, colonial governor. In 1770-71 he was colonial governor of New York; and in 1772-76 he was colonial governor of Virginia. Dunn, Byron Archibald, litterateur, author, was born in 1842 in Michigan. He is a writer of Waukegan, 111. He is the author of General Nelson's Scout ; On General Thomas's Staff; Battling for Atlanta; and From Atlanta to the Sea. Dunn, Charles, lawyer,

Dunn, Frank Kershner, lawyer, jurist, was born Nov. 13, 1854, in Gilead, Ohio. Since 1878 he has practiced law at Mount Gilead and Charleston, 111. In. 1897-1903 he was judge of the fifth judicial circuit; and in 1907 became justice of the supreme court of Illinois for the term ending in 1915.

and took a two years' post-graduate study at Heidelberg and Vienna. He has been professor of clinical sur-

gery in the medical department of the university of Minnesota; surgeon to St. Mary's hospital of Minneapolis; to the city hospital; the Asbury Methodist hospital, and consulting surgeon to the Great northern railroad company. He has been president of the Minnesota state medical association.
