Futrelle, Jacques, journalist, playwright, author, was born April 9, 1875, in Pike county, Ga. In 1890-1908 he was actively engaged in newspaper work and theatrical management. He is the author of Isabel; The Simple Case of Susan; The Chase of the Golden Plate; The Thinking Machine; The King of Diamonds; and The Law Breakers. His plays are Faulkner, U.S.A.; and The Law Breakers. Fyan, Robert W., soldier, lawyer, jurist, congressman, was born March 11, 1835, in Bedford county. Pa. He served in the union army during the civil war, rising to the rank of colonel. At the close of the war he was appointed circuit attorney of the fourteenth judicial circuit of Missouri; and He in 1866-86 he was judge of that circuit. was a member of the state constitutional convention of 1875; and in 1883-85 and 189195 he was a representative from Missouri to the forty-eighth, fifty-second and fiftythird congresses as a democrat. He died July 28, 1896, in Marshfield, Mo. Fyfte, Edward Pierce, soldier, was born in Ohio. In 1861 he was colonel in the twenty-sixth regiment Ohio infantry; and in 1865 was brevetted brigadier-general of volunteers. He died Sept. 25, 1867. Fyffe, Joseph, naval officer, was born July 26, 1832, in Ohio. He saw much service during the civil war; and became rear admiral in 1894. He died Feb. 25, 1896; in Pierce, Neb.

Gadsden, Christopher, legislator, congressman, was born in 1724 in Charleston, S.C. elected to the New York congress of 1765, to petition against the stamp act; and in 1774-76 he was a delegate from New York- to the continental congress. He was elected governor of the state, but declined to serve on account of his age. He died Aug. 28, 1805, in Charleston, S.C.
