In 1861 he left Washington and became a member of the examining board of surgeons for the confederate army; and afterward was surgeon in charge of the two military hospitals in Richmond. Gamsey, Daniel G., congressman, was born in Saratoga county, N.Y. In 1835-29 he was a representative from New York to the nineteenth and twentieth congresses. He died in Rock Island, 111. He was, for several terms, a member of the Kentucky state legislature; and was the second governor of Kentucky in 1796-1804. He died Jan. 9, 1823, in Mount Lebanon, Ky. Garrard, Jeptha, soldier, was born in Ohio. In 1861 he became captain in the third regiment New York cavalry; and in 1865 was brevetted brigadier-general of volunteers. Garrard, Joseph, soldier. In 1903 he became lieutenant-colonel in the U. S. army. Garrard, Kenner, soldier, was born in Kentucky. He served in the civil war; and in 1863 attained the rank of brigadier-general of volunteers. He died May 15, 1879.
