This two volume set was part of Bancroft's larger History of the Pacific States of North America. Though the history was published under the name of Hubert Howe Bancroft, the true author was Ms. Victor, as described in the 1903 article "The Origin and Authorship of the Bancroft Pacific States Publications: A History of a History (part 1)." Vol. I was reviewed in the New York Tribune.
