Missing pages edit
@RaboKarbakian: If you enumerate what pages are actually missing I can insert placeholders so that the rest can be proofread with no trouble later. What takes a lot of time is figuring out what pages are missing and where in the DjVu; the technical job of inserting placeholders isn't a big deal. --Xover (talk) 08:09, 4 September 2022 (UTC)

@Xover: I would like to apologize for the file names. They are descriptively named but there was a point where I was "manipulating strings" more than "being sensible", so the files do not "stack up" as nicely as they could have.
commons:Category:The fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm (1916, Doubleday)/Reconstruction contains two subcats, each containing 3 kinds of files:
commons:Category:The fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm (1916, Doubleday)/Replacement pages are drop in replacements. I cropped the caption pages (in the djvu they are uncropped) and there were two plates where only the blank pages remained and those two generated caption pages are there. The last number in the name is the file page number.
commons:Category:The fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm (1916, Doubleday)/Missing pages contains image plates and generated caption pages where the pages were completely missing from the djvu file, the only clue they should be there was the List of Illustrations. The last number is the page that the new page is to follow, ".1" being the first to follow and ".2" the next. Almost all of the images are ".2" except for one where the caption was there but the blank image pages were not.
The file is a mess, meaning, many situations. Blank pages and missing pages. My unfortunate naming of the files increased this messiness. So, if you would like a script that would rename the files more sensibly, let me know.

- ps: What that first number is on the generated pages, it is the book page number that preceeds it. The "facing page" from the LOI. So, if that is helpful to get bearings with while "in the file" then there it is.--RaboKarbakian (talk) 19:08, 4 September 2022 (UTC)
- @RaboKarbakian: What I am going to have to do to make a new DjVu, is download the original zip file (the _jp2.zip one) from https://archive.org/download/fairytalesofbrot00grim and unpack it into a new directory. Then somehow get the new pages into that directory with a file name that will sort the combined list of files in the correct order. In other words, if the new zip file contains files with filenames identical to the original, but with a numerical suffix (original-page-filename-123.1, original-page-filename-123.2, etc.) that puts them after the page they are supposed to follow, then my job becomes easy (copy new files to old folder, have the computer compile them into a DjVu). If my brain has to do any work here (e.g. mapping from printed page number to file name sequence number) then it'll take a lot longer and I'll need to find a chunk of time when I can devote attention to it. Make the one file of the jp2 from ia with the replaced pages, take that file to the library tomorrow and then all that you will need to do is to generate the new djvu file. And, I can renumber them also, just like with my messed up scan names and numbers. Also, in the "notes to myself" department, missing files should use the number of the next page not the facing page like the pulpy books use due to how the wildcard works for amassing files within a directory. 123.1 goes before 123 as does 1231 and 123+1 and I am done testing this now. Allow me to say that I am grateful for your time and quite a bit jealous of your software and djvu skills. For sure, the very wrongest computer was trashed here.... - @Yodin: It really wasn't there when I left that, and being that the ocr pages don't match the djvu, I tend to believe that it is not a matter in which I was confused. But it could have been my confusion. Thank you for pointing out that it is here now, regardless of if it always was or not. If by "find" you mean "great reconstruction" then that it is. The plates in the ia scan were mostly missing but appeared in other scans. The captions (and I have found several typos in "mine") were not available in the other scans, so I generated them from the semi-proof-read list of illustrations. But, it is complete now (misspellings and all) and that is the first in the free world that I know of.
