Style guide edit

  • Do not shrink text sections. Portions of the species descriptions are given first in Latin, followed by more information in English that appears in a slightly smaller font. Do not use {{smaller}}, as this shrinks the font too much. Leave the "smaller" text at full size; the size difference is negligible.
  • Do not italicize Greek letters, such as α, β, or γ when they are used to label forms of species. The slantedness of the Greek in the text is the result of font choice, and should not be duplicated; italicizing non-Latin characters can produce unwanted results and typically makes them harder to read. Leave the Greek characters as standard.

Plates edit

The plates referred to herein are in a separate volume. I have downloaded all the images and will be cleaning them and placing them on Commons over the next few days. They are all transcluded in the form The Botany of the Antarctic Voyage/Plate x, where x is the plate number in upper-case Roman numerals. To link to them use the format [[../Plate x|{{sc|Plate}} x]]. The link will show red in the Page: namespace, but will be correct in the Mainspace. Beeswaxcandle (talk) 01:30, 1 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Pagination irregularities edit

Around p.170, there are a few irregularities in this volume, with a printer's insert appearing, following by two sets of p.171-172. The duplication of these two pages appears to be present in the original, and not the result of a scan error.

Likewise, after page 304 is another page 301, but this one is NOT a duplicate. The pagination is simply in error in the volume.

This work was originally published as a series of shorter periodical issues. For this edition, the covers and included ads were bound at the end of the volume.

There may be other such irregularities to be found. --EncycloPetey (talk) 16:24, 1 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Automatizing headers? edit

Hello all,

I've been told to use this:

{{rh|2|FLORA ANTARCTICA.|[''Auckland and''}}

(EncycloPetey, thanks!)

Would it be possible (and would it be useful) to automatize the headers like this:

{{rh|2|TITLE|2}}

and to have only to suppress the page number either left or right and introduce the title if necessary? I have seen this done in other books but I don't know how.

Done. --EncycloPetey (talk) 11:26, 2 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
Thanks! You are a magician.  :) --Zyephyrus (talk) 22:09, 4 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Style-related questions edit

I made a couple of changes, but I have a few questions. Here's the text:

2. Cardamine corymbosa, Hook. fil. ; hirsutula v. glabra, caulibus perbrevibus rigidis ad basin ramosis, ramis gracilibus flexuosis diffusis parce foliosis, foliis longe petiolatis pinnatisectis, foliolis 3-5 subpetiolulatis rotundatis terminali majore, lateralibus remotis saepe minutis, floribus corymboso-fasciculatis axillaribus v. terminalibus, corymbis nunc proliferis, pedicellis brevibus demum valde elongatis, siliquis anguste linearibus in stylum brevem attenuatis, replo angusto, valvis planis, stigmate minuto. — Hook. fil. in Icon. Plant, vol. vii. pt. 2. tab. 686.

  • "Cardamine" is small caps in the original: is there a good template for this, or do you convert to allcaps?
{{sc}} -> Cardamine.--Mpaa (talk) 19:23, 4 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
would say so.--Mpaa (talk) 19:23, 4 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
