בקרותא I ch. same. Lam. R. to , 9 וחד בענא חד בב׳ one is employed in the fold and one in the cattle-farm. Y. Snh. VII, 25d bot. וכ׳ בקוותא מן עגל גנב (corr. מן.. ליה ואייתיה בקר׳) he stole a calf from the yard and brought it to him.

בקש (b. h.; בק, v. בקא; corresp. to ch. בעי); Pi. ביקש, בקש to seek, desire, beg, ask. Kidd. 65a וכ׳ מבקשין the court begs him to give her a letter of divorce, opp. to כופין. Ber. 12b וכ׳ לקבוע בקשו they (the Rabbis) intended to insert the chapter about Balak &c. Gen. R. s. 84 ב׳ וכ׳ לישב he intended to live in peace; a. fr. -- רחמים ב׳ to pray (for mercy), v. בעי. Ber. l. c. B. Bath. 91b; a. fr. Hithpa. התבקש, Nithpa. נתבקש to be sought, to be hunted for (by detectives); to be summmoned. Taan. 29a (a disguised warning given to R. בקשה f. (b. h.; preced.) desire, prayer. Ned. XI, 12 ב׳ דרך in the way of a request (to give a divorce, v. preced.). Ber. 9a, a. fr. ב׳ לשון אלא נא אין the word נא in the Bible means prayer (I pray &c.). Ib. 57a תויה,, בקשתו his prayer is held in suspense (its fulfillment is doubtful). - ממך בב׳ pray thee, v. בע. בקתא, ביקתא f. (=בקעתא, v. באגא a. בקעה) valley short cut; group of felds. Ber. 34b bot. I consider him arrogant בב׳ דמצלי מאן (Ms. M. a. Ar. בפקתא q. v.) who prays in a valley (where people pass by). Keth. 54a; 103a בביקתי ולא בביתי 'in my house' (as long as you will spend your widowhood in my house'-- tthe marriage con- tract reads) but not in my estate, i. e. she must be content to live in her late husband's house with his heirs, but she cannot claim a separate residence. [Com- ment. עקתי=בקתי בי house of my distress, narrow house, i. e. when there is no room for her and the heirs, she loses her claims, v. Sabb. 77b, etymol. of עקתא=ב׳ בי narrow place.-בי׳־ בר (בת) one of the same rural com- munity; trnsf. of the same class or category; neighbor. Men. 24b ב׳ בני כולהו they all belong together. בר I m. (b. h.; ברר) [empty, open] 1) uncultivated ground, forest, prairie; opp. יישוב. Kil. VIII, 6. Hull. 80a הבר שור the ox of the prairie, bufalo. Ib. הב׳ איל forest ram. Y. Sabb. XIV, 14b bot. ב׳ של חזיר wild swine. -- 2) clear, visible, whence the outside, surface, opp. תוך. Yoma 72b a scholar כברו תוכו שאין whose inside is not as his outside (who is insincere); Ber. 28a. Y. Pes. VII, 34a bot. בר תוך the inner parts of the Passover lamb must hang outside (not be put inside, v. R. Akiba in Mish. VII, 1); Mekh. Bo, 6 ובר תוך (read בר תוכו); Pes. 74a R.
