הבטחה f. (בטח) assurance, divine promise, faith. Ex. R. s. 38 הה׳ באתה the promise came true. Ber. 17a וכ׳ ה׳ גדולה the divine promise (of reward) to women is greater &c. Ib. V, 4; Sot. 38b וכ׳ הבטתתו ואם but if he is confident that &c. Gen. R. s. 76 וכ׳ לצדיקים ה׳ אין the rigtheous do not rely on the divine promise in this world (they are afraid, lest their sin may have caused its with- drawal, v. Ber. 4b). Mekh. Yithro s. 2 בעלי אלו אמת אנשי ה׳ (Var. אבטחה) 'men of truth' (Ex. XVIII, 21) that means men having faith in God; a. e. -- Pl. הבטחות. Ex.
