הבלעה f. (בלע) [absorption,] payment for a thing included in the bargain (and not mentioned); indirect sale or purchase. Erub. 27b בד׳ . . . . דמי שנתן he paid the full value of the salt and water indirectly (by paying so much more for the oil for which he bargained). Bekh. 31b בה׳ אותו מוכרין it is sold in connection with other things. Ned. 37a היא ה׳ the teacher's fee for the Sabbath lessons is included in the general engagement (by the week, the month &c.).

הבערה f. (preced.) 1) the law (Ex. XXXV, 3) for- bidding the kindling of fire on the Sabbath. Sabb. 70a יצאת ללאו ה׳ the law, 'ye shall kindle no fire &c.' is singled out in order to indicate that its transgression is a plain offence (לאו). Ib. יצאת לחלק ה׳ that law is speci- fied in order to intimate that. each transgression of a Sabbath law is to be atoned for separately (if several of them have been committed in one act); Pes. 5b. Y. Sabb. II, 5a bot.; a. fr. -- 2) removal, destruction. Y. Snh. VII, 24b bot. we read here (Deut. XIX, 19) ובערת, and there (ib. Yoma 19b ה׳ קול . . . שישמע כדי that the Highpriest might hear the reverberating noise (of people awake at night). R. Hash. III, 7 וכ׳ ה׳ קול ואם but if he heard only an indistinct sound (echo, opp. שופר קול). -- 2) report, rumor. Y. Dem. I, 22a בעיר ה׳ נפלה the report spread in town. Y. R. Hash.
