חצץ I (b. h.; v. חוץ I) 1) to drive a wedge in (v. Prov. XXX, 27). -- Denom. חן. -- 2) to pick one's teeth. Bets. IV, 6 וכ׳ לחצון; (Tosef. ib. III, 18 לחצות, v. חצה). -- 3) to interpose, v. חון I. Zeb. 19a שיחוו מהו (or שיחוצו). Ib. חוצצת אחת נימא אפי׳ even one thread forms an unlaw- ful interposition. Ib. חוצצות; a. fr. Pi. חיצץ to pick one's teeth. Y. Sabb. VIII, end, I1; Hull. 16b וכ׳ מחצצין אין one must not use it or &c.
חצץ II (b. h.) to cut of, divide; to line a wall so as to leave a space (חצ) between the two partitions. Ohol. XV, 4 וכ׳ שחצצו בית a room which one partitioned off with boards or tapestry on the sides (walls) or on the ceiling. Ib. 5 מארצו ח׳ if he partitioned it off from the floor (laying an additional floor with a vacuum between); Tosef. ib. XV, 4.
חצץ m. (preced.) space between two partitions, vac- uum. Ohol. XV, 4; 5; Tosef. ib. XV, 4. [In b. h. חצן (v. חצן I) wedge like oects, gravel, sand.]

*חצצות f. pl. (v. חציצה) intermediate contacts, laws concerning the shaking of an object by an unclean person through a partition (v. חצין). Y. Hag. II, end, 78c (v. emendation in R. S. to Toh. VII, 5).
