XXXII, 6); . . . to bloodshed (by ref. to II Sam. II, 14); Tanh. Sh'moth 1; Tosef. Sot. VI, 6. Ib.; Gen. R. . c. ירושה לשון אלא צ׳ .. . אין this merriment refers to the joy over tthe heirloom (the birth of a legitimate heir tto Abraham, whereas Yishmael claim- ed the birthright as the firstborn).

צחנה f (b. h.; צחן, cmp. צחח, to glisten; be parched; cmp. זהם, to be filthy) 1) (b. h. ofensive smell,) offensive matter. Pesik. Dibre, p. 11 1a וכ׳ צ׳ אוכל אדם a man may eat decayed matter two or three times, but finally he will loathe it; Yalk. Lam. 998; (Yalk. Prov. 932 צואה). Ter. X, 1 וכ׳ בצ׳ מתיר allows the use of onions of T'rumah in a decayed dish, because they are applied only to absorb the froth, Maim. (R. S., v. infra). - 2) [mud fsh,] small fish preserved in brine, similar to טרית. Ter. l. c. בצ׳ מתיר allows the use of onions of T'rumah for boiling tsahetnah, R. S. - Ned. B'shall. s. 2 שלהן חרבות צ׳ כנגד this (the lightning) corre- sponds to their (the Egyptians') brandishing their swords; Yalk. Sam. 160 הזדן צ׳ כנגד. - Pl. צתצוחין (or ח׳). Midr. Till. to Ps. XVIII, 13 . .. ברזל של צ׳ מיני והביא פרעה חזר מצוחצחין again Pharaoh brought up various kinds of listening iron (steel) armor, and the Lord brought light- nings which are glistening. - 2) clear fluid, dilution.
