קופיץ m. (ch. form) (קפץ; cmp. קפיץ, a. קפץ) [curved cutting tool,] hatchet or bil for chopping bones. Targ. Y. Deut. XXI, 4 (ed. Vien. קופין). -- Bets. IV, 3 מבקעין אין בק׳ אלא . . . you must not split wood (on the Holy Day for immediate use) with an axe . . . , but only with the butcher's hatchet. Ib.
