ROBERT-FLEURY, (JOSEPH) NICO- LAS, born in Cologne, Aug. 8, 1797, of French parents. History and genre painter, pupil of Girodet, Gros, and Horace Vernet. Lived much in Rome up to 1826, when he settled in Paris. In 1833 he exhibited Scene in the Massacre of St. Bartholomew, which at once gave him a high position.
