SOUTHESK, Earl of, His lordship's predecessor was his kinsman, James, 5th Earl, who having engaged in the rebellion in 1715, was attainted; his title remaining in abeyance, till the present Earl, having established his claim of inheritance before the House of Lords, an Act of Parliament was passed in 1855, to relieve him from the attainder. His lordship's father (who but for the attainder would have been 8th Earl of Southesk), was Sir James Carnegie, 6th Bart.; he was born in 1T99, and was for some time M.P. for the Montrose burghs : WJ.NOV. 14, 1825, Charlotte, daughter of the late Rev.
