LAWRENCE DUNDAS, 3rd Earl, and a Baronet, son of the late Hon. John Charles Dundas, who was 4th son of the 1st Earl, and sometime M.P. for Richmond, and Lord Lieut, of Orkney and Zetland, by Margaret Matilda, daughter of James Talbot, Esq., of Mary Villa, co. Wex- ford. Born Aug. 16th, 1844; succeeded his uncle 1873. Was educated at Harrow and at Trinity College, Cambridge. Entered the Royal Horse Guards Blue as Cornet 1866, and retired as Lieut. 1871. Sat as M.P. for Richmond (L.) Nov. 1872 till May 1873. Married (1871) Lady Lilian Selina Elizabeth Lumley, daughter of the 9th Earl of Scarbrough, and has issue, living, Daughter, Hilda Mary, b. 1872. ^Brothers living, John Charles, M.P., heir presumptive, b. 1845 ; educated at Harrow and at Cambridge (1st in 2nd class Classical Tripos 1867); called to the Bar at Lincoln's Inn 1869 ; is Lord Lieut, of Orkney and Zetland, a Dep. Lieut, and a Magistrate of the North Riding of Yorkshire; elected M.P. for Richmond (L.) June 1873 : m. 187<>, the Hon. Crest, A lion's head affrontee, gules, encircled by a holly-bush, proper. upportns, Two lions, proper, each crowned with an antique crown, or, and gorged with a chaplet of oak leaves, vert; pendent from each chaplet an escutcheon, that on the dexter charged with the arms of Bruce, viz. argent, a saltire and chief, gules, and on a canton, argent, a lion rampant, azure ; that on the sinister with the arms of Fitzwilliam, viz. lozengy, or and gules. ZETLAND, Earl of, His lordship's predecessor was his uncle, Thomas, K.G., 2nd Earl of Zetland. He was b. Feb. 5, 1795, and succeeded his father 1839. Educated at Harrow, and at Trinity College, Cambridge (M.A. 1814). Sat as M.P. for Richmond 181830, and 18359, and for York 18302, and 18335. Was Grand Master of the Freemasons of England 1843 69, and sometime Lord Lieut, and Custos Rotulorum of the North Riding of Yorkshire. Resigned the Order ot the Thistle on becoming a K.G. Married 1823, Sophia Jane who d. 1865 daughter of Sir Hedworth Williamson, 6th Bart. He d. May 6, 1873, leaving no issue.
