Mary, o. sister of 12th Baron de Stafford ; he and his wife were created Baron and Baroness Stafford, with remainder in default of male issue to the heirs of their bodies, but his lordship being attainted and beheaded in 1G78 for alleged complicity in the Titus Oates plot, his descend- ants did not inherit the title till the reversal in 1825, when the Barony was confirmed to the 8th Baron on his establishing his riglit to the title before the Committee for Privileges of the House of Lords. A claim made at the same time to the ancient barony of de Stafford was held not to have been established. The 8th Baron took the additional surname of Stafford in 1826.
