Curry, Otway, 1804-C5. Abdalldh. An American poet and jouinahst; b on a farm where is now the village of Greenfield, Highland Co., 0. ; was chiefly self-educated, in 1823 he went to Leb- anon, and learned the trade of a carpen- ter; worked at his trade in several towns, and wrote poetry for the news- papers till 1829, when he settled as a farmer in Union Co. , in 1838 he united with W. D. Gallagher in editing the " Hesperian," at Columbus, ; in 1839 removed to Marysville, and began to study law; in 1842 purchased the " Greene County Torchlight," published at Xenia, whither he removed the next year ; in 1845 he returned to Marysville, and from that time was devoted to his profession, except that in 1853-54 he edited the " Scioto Gazette," residing in the meantime at Chillicothe. D. at Marysville,

Curtis, George William, 1824-. Eowadji; The Lounger; Old Bachelor; Paul Potiphar ; A Traveller. An American journalist and miscellaneous writer; b. at Providence, HI.; when he was 15 years old, the family re- moved to New York City; in 1842 he went with an elder brother, and resided at the Brook Farm, at Roxbury, for 18 months ; then to Concord, Mass , where they lived with a farmer, and worked on his farm, for another 18 months ; in 1846 he went to Europe, resided in Germany and Italy, and trav- elled in Egypt and Syria ; on his return home, he soon became connected with the New York "Tribune" and has since been devoted to authorship and journal- ism in New York City, being from 1857 the editor of " Harper's Weekly "
