The Contents of XV. And for preventing the like Miftakes and Irregularities for the future, Be it further enacted by the Salmon Ban-el' 1 ' 1 •^• uthor ' t y aforefaid, That from and after the firft Day of June one thoufand feven hundred and nineteen, the Contents of the Herring and Salmon Barrel fhall be the fame throughout the whole united Kingdom of Great Britain ; that is to fay, the Herring-barrel fhall contain thirty-two Gallons, and the Salmon-barrel forty-two Gallons ; and that all Exportation of Salmon or Herrings in Barrels of a different Size or Con- tent, the empty Herring-barrels now in Hand excepted, fhall be adjudged and taken to be an unlawful Exportation, and fhall not entitle the Exporter to any .Premium in refpect of the fame. Provided neverthelefs, forafmuch as it may be convenient for the Merchants, for the better fx^rtedinHa'lf 'Stowage in the Ships in which fuch Exportation of Herring or Salmon is made, to pack up fome Part barrels. " ' thereof in Half-barrels :' Be it enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That it fhall and may be lawful t© export Herring or Salmon in Half-barrels, according to the Proportion of the Barrels above-mentioned refpectively, but in no other Barreis or Calks of any other Size, or Content whatfoever ; and they fhall, by virtue of this Act, be entitled to a proportionable Premium or Drawback for every fuch Half barrel, viz. Half what they would be entitled to in cafe the Exportation had been made in whole Barrels. Erine carried ' XVII. And whereas by the faid Laws relating to the Duties on Salt it is provided, ThatnoPerfon from-the pits for ^ w hatfoever fhall make ufe of any Brine for the pickling or curing of any Fifh or Flefh, or for preferving Filvfo forfeit' ^ of any Provifions, before the fame is boiled into Salt:' For the better preventing Frauds therein, Be it 40 s. per Gallon, further enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That every Perfon who fhall carry or convey or caufe any Brine to be carried or conveyed from the Pits (other than (uch Perfon or Perfons who are known Proprietors of Pans for boiling the fame into white Salt) fhall forfeit and lofe the Sum of forty Shillings for every Gallon of Brine lb carried and conveyed, and fo proportionably for a greater or leffer Quantity* '. h 3 Ann. c.14. And whereas by an Act of Parliament made in the fecond and third Years of the Reign of her late Majefty Queen Anne, intituled, An Ail for the better fecuring and regulating the Duties upon Salt, It is provided, That in cafe any Ship or Veffel fhould come into any Port of England, Wales, or Berwick upon Tweed, from Irela?id or any other foreign Part, having on board any Quantity of Salt, which was taken in only for the neceffary Provifions of the Ship for fuch Voyage, or for curing of Fifh, it fhould be lawful for the Mafter of fuch Ship or Veffel to land the Salt, fo as an Entry fhould be made thereof within ten Days after his firft coming into fuch Port, and the Duties paid down or fecured for the fame before the fame or any Part thereof fhould be landed or taken out of any Ship or Veffel ; neverthelefs, for want of fuffi- cient Penalties to enforce Obedience thereto, feveral Matters of VeiTels, who fince the making the faid Act have imported fuch Salt, have refufed or neglected to enter and pay the Duties for the Sale by them the Time limited by the faid Act :' Be it therefore enacted by the Au^ Foreign Salt im- fo imported as aforefaid-, within the ported, "ken in t h or i t y. aforefaid, That in cafe any Mafter of any Ship or Veflel, who fhall, after the twenty-fourth 4"ifioTforthe' D a Y °f J mu one thoufand feven hundred and nineteen, import or bring into any Port or Place of Voyage, or for Great Britain, from Ireland or any other foreign Part, any Quantity of Salt which was taken in only for curing of Fifli, the neceffary Provifions of the Ship for fuch Voyage, or for curing of Fifh as aforeiaid, fhall refufe or not entred in ten ne gle£t to enter and pay or fecure the Duty for the fame, within ten Days after his firft coming into any and doubt- the' fuch Port or Place 5 and before the fame or any Part thereof fhall be landed or taken out of any fuch Ship Value°. U C or Veflel, all the Salt fo imported fhall be forfeited and loft, and the Mafter or other Perfon, Commander of the Ship or Veflel wherein any fuch Salt fhall be imported, or the Owner or Importer of fuch Salt, fhall likewife forfeit double the Value thereof. No Owner of XIX. And be it further enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That no Proprietor or Owner of Salt- Salt-works to wor ks, or who fhall have any Intereft in, or any Rent, Profit or Benefit referved upon, iftuing out of or Peace metiers 3 * 1 ? wa Y s arifing by any Salt-pits, Salt-works, Store-houfes or other Places made ufe of by any Maker, relating to Salt- -Refiner, Importer or Dealer in Salt, fhall act as a Juftice of the Peace in any Matter or Thing relating to duties." the Duties on Salt, or any Offence committed agajnft the Law's' relating to "the fame. And be it further enacted, That all and every Mafter and Commander of any Ship or Veffel what- carrying Salt foever, that from and after the four and twentieth Day of June one thoufand feven hundred and nineteen frc~ ' En Cc bel. give a Particular for collecting the Duties on Salt in the faid Port or Place appointed to receive the fame, a true Particular °f the Salt to of the Quantity fo tranfported and carried as aforefaid, figned by the Officers for collecting the faid Duties on Oath "a!-™ on Salt > and b ? the ° fficers ot £he Cuttoms for the Port or Place from whence the faid Ship or Veffel came ; and then the Mafter or his Mate, or the Boatfwain of fuch Ship or Veflel fhall make Oath before ' the Commiffioners for collecting the faid Duties on Salt or their Officers, fome or one of them (who are hereby impowered to adminilter the fame without Fee or Reward) that to his Knowledge there hath not been laid on board or taken into the faid Ship or Veffel any Salt fince he or they came from fuch Port as aforefaid ; and in cafe fuch Ship or Veflel be to deliver one Part of her Salt at one Port and another Part at another Port or Ports, that then the Officers for collecting the faid Duties, and Officers of the Cuftoms whe.e fuch Salt fhall be delivered, fiull certify on the Backhue of the Cocquet, Tranjire or other Warrant, or elfe by Certificate only under the Hands and Seals of the Officers, how much and what Quantify of the Salt mentioned in the Cocquet, Tranjire or other W arrant, from the Port from whence fuch Ship or Veflel came, h .th been there Lnded and delivered, upon the Penalty of forfeiting double the Value of the Salt that fhall be otherwife delivered, and ten Shillings per Bufhel-.
