Pounds for each Tentor or Rack that fhall be found not fo numbred and marked as aforefaid ; and the Juft 1 - Tnfpeaors to be ces of the Peace for the Counties aforefaid, in their refpective General Quarter-Seffions next after Midfmnmer- chofen yearly : £)ay next, and afterwards at their General Quarter-Seffions next after Eajier yearly, and every Year fhall choofe and appoint fo many ikiiful Men of good Character and Repute within the faid refpective Counties, as they {hall think reafonable, to be Infpectors for the Year enfuing, and may allow to each of them a Sa- lary not exceeding thirty Pounds per Annum-, to be paid out of fuch Money as {hall be received by the Treafurers of the faid Counties refpectively, as is herein after directed ; which faid Infpectors {hall, and they T-heir Power, hereby have full Power at all feafonable Times in the Day-time (Sundays excepted) to enter and infpect all and every the Mill and Mills, Shop and Shops, Outhoufe and Outhoufes, and Tentor-Grounds of every Clothier, Millman and other Perfon concerned in the manufacturing and milling of mixed or medley Woollen Broad Cloth ; and they are to meafure the Length of every Tentor or Rack, and Length and Breadth of every fuch Cloth he fhall there find, before it {hall be carried from thence, and {hail ftamp his Name on a Lead Seal, to be furniflied by the Maker of fuch Cloth or Cloths, and affix the fame on the Head End of every fuch Cloth, and fhall keep one or more Book or Books, wherein fhall be regiftred or fet down fuch Clothier's, Millman's or other Perfon's Name, and the Number and exact Length and Breadth of every fuch Cloth, which fhall be made within their refpective Divifions ; and {hall, at every General Quarter-Seffions of the Peace to be holden for the County, City or Town Corporate wherein they fhall be fo appointed reflectively, give in a true Copy of fuch Regifter, with an Account of what Pains, Penalties,, and Forfeitures have been levied, recovered and received, by Virtue of this Act, within their refpeitive Divifions; and no Infpector {hall enter upon the Execution of fuch his Office before he hath taken the Oath following before one of his Majefty's Juftices of the Peace for the County, City or Town wherein he fhall be appointed Infpector : A. XL And if from and after the faid firft Day of Auguft one thoufand feven hundred and twenty-feven, any Clothier or Maker of any fuch Cloth, or any Milman or other Perfon within the Counties aforefaid, {hail re- fufe fuch Infpector or Infpectors to enter the faid Places or any of them for the Purpofes aforefaid, the Per- fon fo refufing or refifting fhall forfeit and pay the Sum of ten Pounds. XII. Provided, and be it enacted, That if any fuch Infpector or Infpectors appointed as aforefaid, do or fhall act therein againft his or their faid Oath or Oaths, he or they being convicted thereof {hall forfeit and pay the Sum of twenty Pounds. XIII. And for the railing the aforefaid Salaries for the Infpectors aforefaid, Be it enacted, That from and after ths faid firft Day of Auguft every Maker or Makers of mixed or medley Woollen Broad Cloth within the Counties aforefaid, fnall pay to the faid Infpector or Infpectors appointed as aforefaid, the Sum of two- Pence per Cloth, for every fuch Cloth, he, file or they fhall make, before the faid Cloths are fent away from the faid Mill or Mills; and the faid Infpector or Infpectors fhall, every three Months or oftner, pay the Money by him or them fo received, into the Hands' of the Treafurer of the County for the Time being, where fuch Infpector or Infpectors fhall live or exercife his or their Office or Offices, to be applied by the Direction of the faid Juftices at their General Quarter-Seffions, towards the Salaries of Infpectors to be ap- pointed by Virtue of this Act. XIV. And if any Millman within the Counties aforefaid fhall, after the faid firft Day of Auguft, fend home to any Clothier or Maker of Cloth, any fuch Cloth or Cloths as aforefaid, before they are infpected and meafured as aforefaid, then fuch Millman fhall, for every Piece of Cloth fo fent home, forfeit and pay the Sum of forty Shillings. XV. Provided always, That nothing in this Act contained {hall extend, or be conftrued to extend, to repeal or make void any Powers formerly given by Charter or Act of Parliament to the Corporation of Clothiers in the City of Iforce/ler, for the better governing or regulating the Woollen Manufacture, but that the fame fhall and may be ufed and exercifed, as if this Act had never been made ; any Thing herein contained to the contrary thereof in any wife: notv.'ithftanding. , XVI. And whereas, by an Act parted in the twelfth Year of the Reign of his prefent Majefty, intituled, An ASl to prevent unlawful Combinations of ' JVorkmcn employed in the Woollen Alanufaflures, and for the bct- ter Payment of their Wages, It is enacted, That if any Clothier, Sergemaker, Woollen or Worfted Stuff- maker, or Perfon concerned in making any Woollen Cloths, Serges or Stuffs, or any ways concerned in employing Woolcombers, Weavers or other Labourers in the Woollen Manufactures as aforefaid, fhall pay any Perfon or Perfons employed by them, their Wages or other Price agreed on, or any Part thereof, either in Goods, or byway of Truck, or in any other Manner than in Money, every Perfon fo offending fhall forfeit and pay the Sum of ten Pounds. ' XVII. And whereas by the faid Act no Time is limited for profecuting for fuch Offence as aforefaid,' Be it therefore enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That every Profecution for fuch Offence, by Virtue of the faid recited Act, fhall be commenced within the Space of three Months next after fuch Offence committed, and not otherwife. XVIII. And be it further enacted, That if any Perfon is fued or molefted for any Matter done in Purfu- ance of this Act, fuch Perfon may plead the General Iffue, and may give this Act and the Special Matter in Evidence; and if after the Defendant or Defendants fhall have appeared, the Plaintiff {hall be nonfuited, or discontinue his Action, or if upon Demurrer Judgment {hall be given againft the Plaintiff, or if a Verdict is. given for the Defendant or Defendants, the Defendant or Defendants fhall and may recover treble Cofts, for which
