and with mercy and loving-kindness Thou dost still surround us. Thou hast stamped upon our souls thine own glorious image and likeness, by which Thou hast communicated a power to us to rise above the world, to contemplate even the heaven of heavens, and the glory of Thy Majesty. In this thine act of boundless love, Thou hast crowned us with glory and honour! Thou hast given us this beautiful world of nature, teeming with fruitfulness and plenty, to be our temporary dwelling place; while Thou hast drawn over our heads, as a nightly curtain, the richly spangled sky, exciting our wonder, gratitude, and praise! While thy lovely Book of Nature proclaims thine everlasting unity, thy creative power and goodness; thy more splendid Book of Revelation brings thy presence near, even in the midst of us. It is thy Word that brings life and immortality to light, and reveals that better spirit-world, in which thy faithful children shall live for ever. For these, and all other, thy matchless mercies, we desire, O Lord, to render up our feeble praises. Be with us through this day, for thy name and mercy's sake.
