of evil, that in fear and trembling we may faithfully pursue our onward way. O God! Thou great teacher of all truth, give us eyes to behold sin in its own direful quality, not only as something done by us against thy commandments, but as a corrupting subtle poison, pervading, with deadly effect, the interiors of human life, and destroying in the soul the peace, the wisdom, and the bliss of heaven. O God! give us understanding that we may keep thy law; for "Great peace have they who love thy law, and nothing shall offend them."

Tuesday Evening.

ALMIGHTY LORD! the one Dispenser of all good, the Saviour and Preserver of all thy people, help us, we beseech Thee, at the close of this, another day in our probationary life, to offer up the overflowings of our hearts in grateful acknowledgment for all that goodness and mercy which Thou hast dispensed to us and to all men. We may see Thee, O Lord Jesus, as the Source of every blessing, as our Shelter from the storms of temptation, and the Eternal Fountain whence issue those living streams of salvation which for ever flow from Thee for the good of all. May thy love and truth be still the hallowed fire in our hearts, and the light in our eyes. "Search us, O God, and know our hearts: try us, and know our thoughts."
