O grant that we may so receive this, thy precious gift, that when Thou shalt be pleased again to take up thy Life, we may be found, by love and faith in Thee, to be so bound up therein, that where Thou art, we may be also! Gracious God! instruct us by thy Word, and mercifully grant that through this day, we may, by avoiding all sin, live close to Thee, and be cheered by the smiles of thy love. Teach us so to cultivate a heavenly spirit, that we may feel in our souls the quickening influence of that charity, which covers, in others, the multitude of sins: and while, in thy light, we are faithful in our own self-examination, O God, grant that we may leave the examination of others to Thee; knowing that Thou art the Omniscient One who alone searcheth the heart and trieth the reins. Be with us through the labours of this day, that the evening may again find us joyful and happy at thy throne of grace.

ALMIGHTY GOD, the Father of mercies! the Spring of all our joys! with humility and reverence we desire to approach Thee, and with our evening prayer to speak of thy goodness and talk of thy power.
