Barony [S.] (Douglas), a: 1675, with the Earldom of Dunbarton [S.], which see ; ex. DOUGLAS OF KINMONT, MIDDLEBIE AND DORNOCK. Barony [S.], (Douglas), cr. 16S2, with the Marquessate of Quekn.s- berry [S.], this Barony (not, however the Marquessate), was resigned in 1684, and granted (with a novodamus), together with the Dukedom of Queensberry [S.], which see ( b ) DOUGLAS OF NIEDPATII, LYNE AND MANNERIIEAD [OR MUNARD.] Barony [S.] (Douglas), cr. 1697, with the Earldom of March [S.], which see (°) DOUGLAS OF BONKILL, PRESTOUN AND ROBERTOUN. Barony [S.] (Douglas) cr. 1703, with the Dukedom of Douglas [S."j, which see ; ex. 1761. DOUGLAS OF AMESBURY. "William (Douglas), Duke of Queensberry [S.], was, 21 Aug. 1786, cr. BARONY DOUGLAS OF AMESBURY, co. Wilts (•») He d. B.p. 23 Dec. 1810, in his 86th year, when this dignity became extinct. See fuller particulars under " Queensberry " Dukedom of fSJ, cr. 1681, sub. the 4th Duke. DOUGLAS OF DOUGLAS. 1. Archibald - James - Edward Douglas (formerly Stewart), of Douglas and Bothwell Castles, co. Lanark, yr. s. of Sir John Stewart, 3d Bart., of Grandtully, being his 1st s. by his 2d wife Jane, da. of James (Douglas), 2d Marquess of Douglas, Earl (•) Both these titles have been enjoyed with the Marquessate of Queensberry [S.] since its creation in 1682, and, in 1810, followed the course of that dignity. ( b ) These dignities followed the course of the Dukedom (not the Marquessate) of Queensberry [S.], and, in 1810, became united with the Dukedom of Buccleuch [S.] (") These titles became united in 1778 with the Dukedom of Queensberry [8.1 and on the death of the 4th Duke in 1810, with the Earldom of Wemyss [S.] ( d ) By this creation he ceased to be a Kep.
