P.C. to King James VI [S.J, by whom (that King " hav ; .ng respect that the said Sir James is desceudit of his own blude") he was, 24 Nov. 1681, er. LOUD DOUNE [S.], with rem. to his heirs male whatsoever^ 11 ) A charter of 6 Jany. 1587/8 (confirmed by an act of Pari. 5 June 1592), gave .1 novodamus of the same, the ultimate rem. being to heirs male whatso- ever bearing the name and arms of Stewart. He m. before 6 March 1563/4, Margaret, da. of Archibald (Camtdell), 4th Emu. ok Argyll [S.], by his 2d wife, Margaret, da. of William (Graham), Earl ok Mentkith [S.] She was living 6 Jany. 1587/8. He d., 20 July 1590. II. 1590. 2. James (Stewart), Earl op Moray, and Lord Doune [S.j, s. and h., who having m. in 15S0, Elizabeth, 1st da. and h. of line James (Stewart), Earl ok Moray [S.] (•' the Good Regent," 1567-70), assumed in her right the Earldom of Moray, and is well known as " the honny Earl of Moray," slain by the Earl of Huntly [S.], 7 Feb. 1591/2. The lands erected into the Lordship of Doune were settled, according to a charter therein referred to, dated 23 May 1565, " on the said Sir James, his heirs and successors to be called and intitulat LOBDS OF Doune, quhn shall have the honour, dignity, place and preheminence of our sovereign Lords parliament." The settlement of 1565, was to Sir James and the heirs male of his body, whom failing to his heirs male whatsoever, 1791, to 1827.
