VBMXW (who d. 1316) relict formerly of John De Burgh (s. and h an. of Richard, Earl ok Ulster [I.]) da. of Gilbert (De Clare), Earl of Gloucester, &c, by the Lady Joan Plantaoexet, [Joan of Arrcs)( . of King Edward I., the said Elizabeth being heiress of the Lordship of Clare, as 3rd sister and coheir of Gilbert, Eaiil ok Gloucester and Earl ok Hektkord. He himself obtained large grants from the Crown : i.e., the manor of Sandall, co. York, of Haighton, Oxon., of Kaukeshall, Surrey, &C. ; was Governor of the Castles of Knaresborough, Gloucester, and of St. Briavels, Warden of the Forest of Dene, &e. He was also Lord of Armoy, co. Antrim [1.] Having joined in the rebellion of 1322, he d. in that year s.p.m. at Tutbury Castle, co. Stafford, and was bur. at Ware Priory, (") Herts. He appears to have been attainted and his honours consequently for/cited, tho his Irish if not all other his estates were restored to his widow. She, who was b. about* 1292 and who was the foundress of " Clare Hall, Cambridge," d. 4 Nov. 1360. Will directing her burial to be at the Minories, Aldgate, London, ilat. at Clare, 25 Sep. 1355, pr. 3 Dec. 1360. II. 132G. 1. Sir Richard D'Amorie, stated to have been s. andh. of Nicholas D. of Blechesdon, Oxon., &c, (a br. of the last named Baron), was in the Scottish wars, was Steward of the King's household, and was sum. to Pari, as a Baron (LURD D'AMORIE) from 3 Dec. (1326) 20 Ed. II. to 23 Oct. (1330) 4 Ed. II. He m. Margaret, who survived him. He d. 1330. III. 1330, Sir Kichard D'Amorie, only s. and h. who appears to not to have been recognised as Lord D'Amorie and never was .-mn- 1375. moued to Pari, as such. He was iu the Flemish and French wars. He d. s.p. March (1375) 49 Ed. III. when the Barony, if it ever existed as an hereditary dignity, became dormant or extinct. ( b ) BANBT. Earldom. York, by Elizabeth, 4th da. and coheir of John (Nevjll), Lord Latimer, heiress of Danby Castle nfsd. ; was I. 28 June and bap. 1 July 1573, at Dantsey ; served in the wars iu the Low countries under Prince Maurice of Orange, both by sea and land ; was Capt. in the wars of France and there Knighted by the French King, Henry IV., as also, 8 Oct. 1591, by the Earl of Esses in Ireland, where he was Lieut.-Gen. of the Horse, 1599, Governor of Armagh, 1601, and Sergeant-Major-Gen. of the army, July to Oct. ( a ) His da. and probably sole heiress, Elizabeth, m. John (Bardolph) Lord Bardolph (who d. 5 Aug. 1363 aged 50) and was living as his wife in 1360. Their sou Sir William, Lord Bardolph was sue. by his s. Thomas, Lord Bardolph, who was attainted 1408. Some authorities, however, give him another da. and coheir, Eleanor, stated to have m. John de Raleigh. ( b ) The 2 sisters and the issue of a third sister of John Chandos were found to be his heirs. The relationship is not very clear. See Banks' " Bar. Anyl. Conceit."
