DARCY. 19 Pari as a Baron (LOUD DAUCY), from the 29 Dec. (1299), 28 Ed. I, to 20 Oct. (1332), 6 Ed. III. He took part in the insurrection against Edward II in 1321, but was pardoned. He m. Eleanor. He d. about 1332 at a great age. II. 1332. 2. Norman (Darcy), Lord Darcy, but never sum. as such. s. and h., was implicated in the same rebellion as his father and likewise pardoned. He m, Is ib _'lla. He d. April 1310. His widow d. Nov. 1368. III. 1310, S. V hii.ip (Darcy), Lord Darcy, but never sum. as to such, only s. and h., aged 10 years at the death of the father. He d. 1350. WMa. and under age, about 13.i0, when the Barony, if it can be considered as a Barony in fee, fell into abeyance between his two aunts, or their descendants. ( a ) DAKCY or DARCY DE KXAYTH Barony by l. John Darcy of Knaith, co. Lincoln &o„ who, Writ. according to Dugdale, was br. of Philip, Lord Darcy [1294] above named, but who, not improbably, was s. of Sir Roger Darcy (an uncle I. 1332. of the said Philip), began life as a soldier in the Scotch wars; was Sheriff of the counties of Nottingham, Derby, Lancaster aud York ; was Chief Gov. of Ireland, 1322, 1324-20, 1328. 1332, 1334-37 and finally, 1340. He was sum. to Pari, as a Baron (LORD DARCY) from 27 Jany. (1331/2) 6 "Ed. III. to 20 Jany. (1333/4) 7 Ed. HI. by writ directed "Jehinni Darcy, Ic Cosin," and on 25 Feb. (1341/2) 16 Ed. Ill, by writ directed " Johanni Darry." <*} He distinguished himself in two expeditions against Scotland ; was constable of the Tower of London Seo. He m. firstly, Emmeline, da. aud coheir of Walter Heron of Hedlestone, co. Northumberland, by Christiana, da. and h. of Roger De Notion. He m. secondly, 3 July, 1329, at Maynoth, Joan, Dow. Countess op Kildare [I.], da. of Richard (de Burgh), Eaul of Ulster [I.] bv Margaret, da. of John de Burgh. He d. 30 May 1347. His widow d. 12 March 1359. II. 1317. 2. John (Darcy) Lord Darcy - , or Lord Darcy de Knayth, s. aud h., 30 years old in 1347, who from 20 Nov. (1348) 22 Ed. III. to 15 March (1354/5) 28 Ed. III. was sum. to Pari, by writ directed " Johanni Darcy dc Knayth." He, as was his father, was at the battle of Cressy, 1346", was Custos of the Liberty of Holderness, and Constable of the Tower of Lon- don. He wi. about 1350, Elizabeth, de jure, apparently, mo jure Baroness Meinill, being da. and h. of Nicholas (De Meinill), Lord Meinill [133tJ-42] by Alice, da. of William (de Ros), Loud Ros. He d. March 1355/6 aud was bur. at Gisborough, co. York. His widow (who brought the important Lordship of Whorltou, co. York, into the Darcy family) m. 1357 as his first wife Peter (De Mauley), Lord Mauley (who d. 1383) aud d. 1368. III. 1356. 3. John (Darcy), Lord Darcy &c, s. and h. aged 5 in 1356. He d. a minor and unm. in 26 Aug. 1362. IV. 1362. 4. Philip (Darcy), Lord Darcy, &c. br. and h. aged 21 in 1362. In 1368 by the death of his mother he became, apparently, Lord Meinill. He was sum. to Pari. 4 Aug. (1377) 1 Ric, II to 5 Nov. (1397) 21 Rio. II. by writ directed " PkiUppo Darcy." ( b ) He greatly distinguished himself in the French wars, and in 1385 was Admiral of the Fleet, north of the Thames. He m. Elizabeth, da. of Sir Thomas Grey of Hetou. He d. 24 April 1398 aud was bur. at Gisborough. Will dat. 16 April 1398 pr. at Lincoln. His widow survived him some 14 years. Her will pr. at Lincoln, 1412. (") These were (1) Sir Philip de Limbury, then aged 30, s. aud h. of Julian, 1st da, of the 1st Lord, and (2) Ann. wife of Sir Roger de Pedwardiue, theu aged 50, the 2nd da.
