Col. of (the Scots Greys) Dalzell's Dragoons in 1079 and Col. of that Reg. in 1685 and was, 16 Aug. 10S6,( b ) cr. EAHL OF DUNMORE, VISCOUNT OF FINCASTLE, LORD MURRAY OF BLAIR, MOULIN, AND TILLEMOT [S.] Being suspected of adhering to his deposed Sovereign he was deprived of office and imprisoned iu 1692 ; B.C. to Queen Anne. 4 Feb. 1703, and a steady supporter of the Union ; Governor of Blackness Castle, 1707. He in. Catharine, da. of Robert 'Watts, of co. Hereford. He d. 19 and was bur. 21 April 1710, in the Chapel of Holyrood House. Fun. entry at Lyon'office. His wife survived him a short time. John (Murray), Earl of Dunmore, Ac. [S.] 2nd but 1st surv. s. and h. b. about 1685 ; styled Viscount Fincastle, 1706-10 ; being, on 24 Jan. 1707, served heir to his elder br. abovenamed. He served (as Ensign) at the battle of Blenheim, 1704 ; at the capture of Vigo (as Brig. Gen.) 1719 ; in Flanders, 1732, and at t.he battle of Dettingen, 1743 ; becoming, finally, a Gen. in the Army. He was also Col. of the 3rd Reg. of Foot Guards, 1713-52; and Gov. of Plymouth ; a Lord of the Bedchamber, 1731-52 ; Rep. Peer [S.], 1713-15, and 1727- 52. He d. unm. in London, IS April 1752, in his 67th year and was bur. at Stamvell, Midx., having purchased the manor of Stanwell in 1720. Will pr. 1752.
