He m. firstly, Margaret, da. of Robert (Ufford), 1st Earl op Suffolk, by Margaret, da. of Sir Walter Norwich. He m. secondly, before 1369, Margaret, widow of Robert Ujifravtll (s. and h. ap. of Gilbert, Eaul of Angus [S.]), da. of Henry (Percy), Lord Percy, by Idonia, da. of Robert (Clifford) Loud Clifford. He d. 6 Jan. (1371/2), 45 Ed. III. Will, in which he directs his burial to be at Ulvescroft convent, co. Leicester, dat. 1 June 1368, pr. Aug. 1372. His widow d. s.p., at Ginge, co. Henry (Ferrers), Lord Ferrers de Groby, s. and h., by first wife, aged 16 at the death of his father, and aged 21 at the inquisition on the death of his step mother, in 1377, whose dower lands he inherited. He was Bum. to Pari from 4 Aug (1377), 1 Ric. II., to 17 Dec. (1387), 11 Ric. II., by writs directed "Henrico de Feirariis de Groby. "(") He served in the French and Scotch ware and was a Knight Banneret in or before 1384. He was found on the death s.p. of his mother's brother, William (Ufford), Earl of Suffolk (15 Feb. 1382), to be one of his coheirs. He m. Joane, da. of Thomas Poyninus, or (according to some) of Lucas (Poymnqs), Lord St. John. He d. 3 Feb. (1387/8), 11 Ric. II. His widow d. 30 May (1394), 17 Ric. II. V. 1388. 5. William (Ferrers), Lord Ferrers de Groby, s. and h., aged 15 at the death of his father in 13S8. He was sum. to Pari, from 30 Nov. (1396), 20 Ric. XL, to 3 Dec. (1441). 20 Hen. VI., by writs directed " Wdliam de Ferrers de Groby."^) He served in the French wars. He m. firstly, Pliilippa, da. of Roger (Clifford), Loud de Clifford, by Matilda, da. of Thomas (Beauchamf), Earl of Warwick. He m. secondly, Margaret, da. of John (Montacute), 3d Earl of Salisbury, by Maud, da. of Sir Adam Francis, but by her had no issue. He d. 18 May 1445, and was bur. at Ulvescroft afsd.^) VL 1445. 6. Elizabeth suo jure Baroness Ferrers de Groby, gramlaughter and h., being only da. and h. of Henry Ferrers, by Isabel, 1st da. of Thomas (Mowbray), Duke of Norfolk, which Henry was 1st s. and h. ap. of the last Lord, but d. v.p. She was aged 26 years at the death of her grandfather in 1445, being then the wife of Sir Edward Grey. This Edward Grey, then aged 30, was a yr. s. of Reginald, Lord Grey de Ruthin, being his 1st s. by his second wife, Joane, da. and h. of William (de Astley), Lord Astlky, to which lady (who, possibly was, de jure, suo jure Baroness Astley) he was heir. He was, jure uxoris, sum. to Pari, as a Baron, by writs from 14 Dec. (1446), 25 Hen. VI., to 2 Jan. (1448/9), 27 Hen. VI., directed " Edwardo de Greij, MUM, Domino de Ferrers dc Groby," and by writs from 23 Sep. (1449), 28 Hen. VI., to 26 May (1455), 33 Hen. VI. , directed "Edwardo de Grey, Militi, Domino dc Groby."( b ) He d. 18 Dec. (1457), 36 Hen. VI. Will pr. 31 Jan. 1457/8. His widow m. (as his first wife) Sir John Bourchier (s. of Henry, 1st Earl of Essex), who d. s.p. Oct. 1495 and was bur. at Stelling, co. Essex. VII. 1460? 7. Sir John Grey, of Groby and Bradgato, co. Leices- ter, s. and h. of his father, would (as such heir) probublij (but if he survived his mother certainly) be Lord Ferrers de Groby. He was aged 25, ( a ) This is the first appearance of the words " dc Groby " in the writ. ( b ) There is proof in the rolls of Pari, of his sitting. ( c ) His second son and heir male, Sir Thomas Ferrers, inherited a considerable part of his estates and acquired that of Tamworth Castle, co. Warwick, by his marriage with Elizabeth Freville, the heiress thereof. Of the sons of this match (1) Thomas was ancestor of Ferrers of Tamworth whose heiress m. the Hon. Robert Shirley (s. and h. ap. of Lord Ferrers) being ancestress (thro' heirs female) of the Lords Ferrers [of Chartley], while (2) Henry was ancestor of Ferrers of Baddesley Clinton, co. Warwick, which still exist in the male line, and are the male representatives of the ancient house of Ferrers, Earls of Derby. See Tabular pedigree, p. 334, note " a."
