searched, beginning from the elder even to the yongest, he found the cup in Beniamins sack. 13But they [1] renting their garments, and loading their asses againe, returned into the towne. 14And Judas foremost with his brethren entred in to Ioseph (for he was not yet gone out of the place) and they fel together before him on the ground. 15To whom he said: Why would you doe so? know you not that there is not the like to me in the science [2] of divining. 16To whom Judas said: What shal we answer, my lord? or what shal we speake, or be able justly to pretend? God hath found the iniquitie of thy servants: loe we are al bondmen to my Lord, both we, & he with whom the cup was found. 17Ioseph answered: God forbid that I should so doe: he that stole the cup, the same be my bondman: and goe you free unto your father. 18And Judas approaching neerer said boldly: I beseech thee my lord, let thy servant speake a word in thine eares, and be not angrie with thy servant: for after Pharao thou art 19my Lord. Thou didest aske thy servantes the first time: Have you a father or a brother? 20and we answered thee my Lord: We have a father an old man, and a little boy, that was borne in his old age; whose brother by the mother is dead: and his mother hath him only, and his father loveth him tenderly. 21And thou saidst to thy servants: Bring him hither to me, and I wil set mine eyes on him. 22We suggested to my Lord: The boy can not leave his father: for if he leave him, he wil die. 23And thou saidest to thy servants: Unlesse your yongest brother come with you, you shal no more see my face. 24Therfore when we were gone up to thy servant our father, we told him al things that my Lord did speake. 25And our father said: Goe againe, and buy us a litle wheat. 26To whom we said: we can not goe: if our yongest brother shal goe downe with us, we wil set forward together: otherwise he being absent, we dare not see the mans face. 27Wherunto he answered: You know that my wife bare me two. 28One went forth, and you said: A beast did devour him: and hitherto he appeareth not. 29If you take this also, and ought befal him in the way, you shal bring downe [3] my hoare hayres with sorow unto hel. 30Therfore if I shal enter to thy servant our father, and the boy be wanting (wheras his life dependeth upon the life of him) 31and he shal see that he is not with us, he wil dye, and thy servants shal bring downe his hoare hayres with sorow unto hel. 32Let me be thy proper servant that did take him into my protection and promised saying: Unlesse I bring him againe I wil be guilty of sinne against my father for ever. 33I therfore thy servant wil tary instead of the child in the service of my Lord, and let the childe goe up with his brethren. 34For I can not returne to my father, the childe being absent; lest I stand by a witnes of the calamitie that shal oppresse my father.
