I Alfred King, by God's grace, and with the counsel of Ethelred archbishop, and all the West-Saxon nobles' concurrence, have considered my soul's health, and of my inheritance that to me God and my ancestors did give; and of that inheritance which K. Ethelwolf my father to us three brothers did bequeath, Ethelbald, and Ethered, and me; and which of us soever longest liver were, that he should take to all.
