Question about Nigerian copyright edit

Gday. Question about the copyright status of Nigerian government work. Is there an exemption to the work of the Nigerian government that puts such work into the public domain? Or is covered by normal copyright law? Thanks. — billinghurst sDrewth 16:46, 6 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Response to Question about Nigerian copyright edit

I cannot say for certain, the extent to which documents of the Nigerian government are covered by copyright law. My work deals strictly with the works of Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, whom I happen to work for. Anything outside that is beyond my competence to comment on. I will endeavor to confirm though to settle the matter definitively. — Adewemimo Oloyede 1:48, 8 July 2010 (UTC)

For Wikisource to be able to host works they need to be in the public domain. To be in the public domain, they either need to be through the expiry of copyright through years after the death of the author (doesn't apply here) or released by the author into the public domain (which hasn't applied yet). If the author wishes for these works to be released to the public domain, then they need to express how they are releasing the work (for enWikisource see Help:Copyright tags) and then to email the release to mailto:permissions-en@wikimedia.orgbillinghurst sDrewth 03:24, 8 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

An example of a release is

quick note edit

I have applied {{OTRS pending}} to your contribution, which will be replaced with a proper ticket once it has been received, and buys some breathing space.

Generally the convention would be to apply a new note to the base of a talk page, rather than to the top, and the easiest way to do that is to click the [+] tab at the top of the page. I am also watching this page, so you can continue this conversation here, and I will see it when I check my watchlist. — billinghurst sDrewth 04:41, 8 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
