John Henry Robinson

edit

I see you have added a considerable body of information to the 1900 Dictionary of National Biography article on "John Henry Robinson". However, this information does not belong on Wikisource. Wikisource is a collection of previously published works and we do not add modern commentary to those works. I am not sure where to recommend you put your discoveries as it will not be accepted on Wikipedia either, because it is Original Research. I have put a copy of your text in your user subpage User:Jayfkay/Robinson info and then removed your changes to the DNB article. Beeswaxcandle (talk) 08:03, 1 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

I have added a note to the Talk page in question and the note that points to your original research. With regard to your comments on BWC's talk page, WS's main namespace is not out to be right about people, it is about accurately reproducing public domain publications, and historical documents. If there is documentary evidence available on the web, and/or a range of sources that can be scanned, uploaded to Commons that we can then transcribe and that fits our purpose, then we can look to build a page in the Portal: namespace (subject matter collections) that is based upon the person and link to the various documents held, articles about the person, etc. That way we keep the publications reproduction accurate, though we are presenting a range of material that sits beside it. — billinghurst sDrewth 13:30, 1 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I've just noticed that there is a copyright notice on the text on both User:Jayfkay/Robinson info and User:Jayfkay. Please note that we cannot host works that are under a copyright unless they have been released under the appropriate license. Please see Wikisource:Copyright policy for more details. This prohibition includes materials on User pages. Can you please clarify your intentions for this material?

With respect to the matters you raised on my talkpage, I have answered them there. Beeswaxcandle (talk) 06:03, 2 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
