First proofs

{{helpme}} I would like to help here, but don't want to cause more work by screwing up. Could you please look at Upton Sinclair's "The Brass Check", specifically at pages 10 - 15 briefly & see if my editing is acceptable? If so, I'll continue. If not, please give me example(s) of what I goofed & I'll do better in the future.

I'm not sure where to sign a page. I've been putting the 4~ in the Summary box. Is that correct? I'm not indenting paragraphs, but separating them by a blank line. Is that OK? Each new page has a bad duplicate of the header, so I'm deleting that. OK? Index:The_Brass_Check_(Sinclair_1919).djvu

We have patrol marks set, so all new editors will be supported, so if there are issues, then we will edit the pages, and most likely pop past your talk page. No need to sign edits, just those on talk pages. You are right not to indent, and to have the extra line return, this is explained at Help:Style guide. I go and have a look at your headers, and validate the pages to which you refer, so might be worth having a look at anything that I do. — billinghurst sDrewth 13:14, 10 October 2014 (UTC)

The mysterious Header toggle button

When proofreading in the Page: namespace and you have your toolbar turned on in "my preferences" (Show edit toolbar (requires JavaScript)), then you will see the button in your toolbar, and clicking it toggles the header/footer on and off. In this space we put the relevant components for top and bottoms of pages, usually by use of the template {{RunningHeader}}, so for example {{RunningHeader|Stanhope|3|Stanhope}} produces

Personally, I have my header/footer set to open in the Page: namespace and I achieved this by activating that option in my preferences (Show header and footer fields when editing in the Page namespace.) — billinghurst sDrewth 13:33, 11 October 2014 (UTC)

I do have the toolbar enabled, although I hadn't been using it, but looking up the codes in help, so thanks. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong with the header, though. Could you please look at page 24 & see if I did that correctly as compared to 23? I think that's what you meant. Thanks, Jim
