Some PAGE namespace formatting
edit- {{RunningHeader|left|center|right}} can use abbreviation {{rh}}
to get to the header/footer, you toggle the top left on the toolbar. billinghurst (talk) 20:32, 18 November 2009 (UTC)
Also like to point to
- Helpful options in My Preferences | Gadgets to the open display type in the Page: namespace
- formatting with {{hws}} and {{{{hwe}}
which we use for hyphenated words at page breaks, so when we transclude these files that it gets rid of the hyphen. billinghurst (talk)
- Thanks for that. KenScheffler (talk) 22:31, 21 November 2009 (UTC)
- Addendum. You are doing nice work! I will look to transclude some of that work to show how it looks in the main namespace. billinghurst (talk) 20:57, 21 November 2009 (UTC)
Front page in the main namespace, and a transcluded chapter ... your baby, so I will let you select your preference of layout
Either revert to your preference, or tell me which you like best, or a variation to your preference.
At this point, I am happy to back out of the way if that is your preference and let you have your way. Not to say that I am going away, it is that you seem to have learnt swiftly, and I don't want to be getting in the way of your fun. -- billinghurst (talk) 02:42, 22 November 2009 (UTC)
- You said nothing, so I have just done something. Can be changed if not like. I have set the whole work for transclusion to main ns, and we just need to finish the Page: namespace work. billinghurst (talk) 09:32, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
- Looks fine to me. KenScheffler (talk) 23:17, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
- Obviously there are still some pages remaining to be done, and we'll just have to pick them up as we get around to it. billinghurst (talk) 01:02, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

Interesting work, is the scan available?
editGday Ken. Nice piece that you are bringing in. If the books available as a scan as a .pdf or .djvu, especially with a text layer contained, we can do a lot more with the work. We try to get our files as djvu and upload them to Commons, and then link to them here through our special Proofread functionality. If you think that is a possibility with this work, please get back to me if you would like some assistance to achieve this. billinghurst (talk) 03:19, 18 November 2009 (UTC)
- The Fifty-Sixth book is from Internet Archive; I would prefer to do it side-by-side but I'm still trying to figure out how to accomplish this. KenScheffler (talk) 05:43, 18 November 2009 (UTC)
- Addendum. I see that you have done some work in our Page: environment. Great. Don't be afraid to add relevant wikilinks, especially to publications and authors; plus you are welcome once you have proofread a page to then change the status of the work by clicking the radio button for Page Status.billinghurst (talk) 03:21, 18 November 2009 (UTC)
- Indeed, fantastic work. Just don't forget to mark the pages "Proofread", so we can notice they're done and put them on the front page as a featured text in the future. Sherurcij Collaboration of the Week: Author:Khwaja Kamal-ud-Din. 05:06, 18 November 2009 (UTC)
- Done Index:Historical Record of the Fifty-Sixth, Or the West Essex Regiment of Foot.djvu I will explain later. billinghurst (talk) 06:17, 18 November 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks kindly! KenScheffler (talk) 06:34, 18 November 2009 (UTC)
What I have done
edit- Downloaded the .djvu file from archive.org to Commons:
- Created the index page Index:Historical Record of the Fifty-Sixth, Or the West Essex Regiment of Foot.djvu and subsequently tried to get the page numbering to align (it is a little skewy in the book)
- Proofed some pages, and imported the text layers on some others.
- Transforming the book structure in main namespace to be a front page, and have subsequent subpages (not general info, not WP's rules)
- Transcluded some pages into the main namespace for the Contents, General Orders, and Preface.
Have a look at what I have done and with looking at H:SIDE see if you can follow that. Happy for you to nag me about what I have done, or what needs doing. billinghurst (talk) 10:55, 18 November 2009 (UTC)
