Wikisource:Deletion policy#General edit

At Wikisource, we allow multiple copies of a work, what we would not be looking to have is multiple copies of the same edition of a work. Subtle changes makes it a different work. — billinghurst sDrewth 05:45, 12 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Commentaries on American Law vol. I edit

Hi Ratte,

I see you tagged the index and several pages from Index:Commentaries on American Law vol. I.pdf for speedy deletion under the "Author's request" criterion. May I ask why you feel these should be deleted? --Xover (talk) 15:56, 20 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Xover: Hello. The PDF file is corrupted, and as a result, some pages are not displayed. As you can see, the title page is not displayed, and some other pages. So WS users cannot use this index for proofreading. Could you please delete it? I have no way to find another file, and now I am currently working on a this classic text. Thank you. Ratte (talk) 17:28, 20 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
Is this the same work? If so I can generate a new DjVu file from the scan images and we can move the index and pages over. Like all Google scans it's pretty poor quality, but hopefully not worse than that it's useable. --Xover (talk) 17:39, 20 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Xover: Cool   Yes, it's the same work. It would be great if you generate a file with displaying pages. Ratte (talk) 17:46, 20 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
Done. It's now at Index:Commentaries on American Law vol. I.djvu and all the pages have been moved over. --Xover (talk) 20:16, 20 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thank you very much! Ratte (talk) 08:53, 21 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Style with regard to chapters edit

Hi. English Wikisource determined some years ago to not use roman numerals for new works. Just letting you know that I will be moving and updating the works recently added to the preferred style. — billinghurst sDrewth 09:49, 10 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

And it is the preference that pages with flowing text, like in this work, are formatted with {{default layout|Layout 2}} than hard coding div format. This method that allows you to present what you believe is the best presentation of the work, and it also allows users to toggle to their preferred layout. Thanks. — billinghurst sDrewth 10:17, 10 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Billinghurst: {{default layout|Layout 2}} is very small. My variant is more suitable for eyes than existing layouts. In this case please add new layout to {{default layout}}, with "max-width: 84ex; text-align: justify; margin: 0 auto; font-family: Cambria, Times New Roman, Times, FreeSerif, serif; font-size: 120%;" Ratte (talk) 10:31, 10 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
We generally don't apply sizes to works, we allow the user to manage that through their own browser settings, similarly trying to not impose font-families, again letting the user's choice be what shows. If you think that we need an alternative layout into the mix, then please suggest that through the normal processes of Wikisource:Scriptorium as that is a community decision by consensus, not mine. — billinghurst sDrewth 10:41, 10 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

author images edit

Hi. We try to note have the author images recorded in {{author}} templates, and instead pull the data from Wikidata. If you think that Wikidata is not displaying the best image, then we would encourage you to add teh image to the author's wikidata page, and change the ranking of the preferred image so that it displays here. Thanks.
