Missing and duplicate pages

Pages /8 & /9 are duplicated as /10 and /11. The source file needs to be fixed, and I am not sure how to do this.--BirgitteSB 21:57, 8 June 2014 (UTC)

@BirgitteSB: I addressed this duplication. While reuploading, however, I noticed that the description says: "User reported error: book is missing 79 pages". How unfortunate. Tom-L (talk) 23:08, 25 November 2015 (UTC)

@Beeswaxcandle: The following page seems to at least have a complete table of contents: EH1906 - that is surely acceptable as a source for the text. However, sheet music (or just even the tune used) is not available - I don't know how much later editions changed the content; you could check the missing numbers see if they appear in your copy. 107.190.33.254 17:17, 15 February 2020 (UTC)

Regarding the missing tunes: IMSLP (which has the same scan - so missing pages et al.) seems to have a complete listing [1] with tunes indicated. The only thing missing will be the harmonizations which might not be the same as in other hymnals. 107.190.33.254 22:30, 16 February 2020 (UTC)

Preface complete: editor's notes

I have completed the transcription of the preface (OCR was of great help, though there were quite a few frequent errors, eg. "e" instead of "c"; "rn" instead of "m"); what remains to be done is the following:

-Pages 19; 20 and 21 require the addition of links for the authors (as is already done at pages 9 and 10)
-Page 16 requires the addition of a few specific musical symbols into the text; they do not appear to be covered by w:template:music.
-The table of contents (pages 27 to 29) has not been transcribed; someone more familiar with the adequate templates to be used for this kind of formatting is welcome to do so.
-There are a few pages where I moved the first or last word to the corresponding page, either because of wiki-linking concerns or for simplicity's sake. I assume this is not a problem in any way.
-The Gregorian chant examples on page 26 are still a work in progress; I have asked for help at Wikisource:Scriptorium/Help#Help_with_lilypond_(transcribing_Gregorian_chant); the solution will probably be of further interest to anybody who does work with the transcriptions (since there are quite a few examples of 4 line notation in the hymnal; not the least the very first hymn. Done - the layout of the text underneath does, however, remain unsatisfactory.
-The formatting of headers and section headers in the body of the text might require a few minor adjustments.

That being said, I can also happily say that the music for a first hymn has been transcribed; i.e. the Palm Sunday processional "All Glory, Laud and Honour". I must note, however, that the suggested tempo seems to be way off; eg. (see wikitext) a modern rendition from the official channel of the Choir of King's College Cambridge is at above twice the tempo (around 104/beat vs. the suggested 46). The New English Hymnal does not give any such indications. Of course, this might simply be a wild difference in taste; this edition being after all more than a century old; but nevertheless I feel inclined to ask: should we stick with the original tempi no matter what?

Possibly already done elsewhere

These folks here apparently already transcribed a portion of this. They seem to be using a vastly more complex format than what I am using here (they also don't have qualms with fixing obvious typos in the music) but if some of it can be reused then it's a potential time-saver and I'm not saying no to it... @Beeswaxcandle: since you seem to have been previously involved with this here. Headers

This is pretty much dead while score is disabled (although we can still transcribe [or copy paste from sources such as the more recent NEH on hymnary.org, and do whichever alterations are necessary] the texts). I've tried making something of a basic template for headers, User:RandomCanadian/EnglishHymnalHeader - feel free to improve on it. Cheers, RandomCanadian (talk) 05:40, 8 March 2021 (UTC)

@RandomCanadian: The header to No. 212 is a little problematic, but I'd hate to complicate the template everywhere else. Would it be a better idea to manually create that header?
