- "The ex-wife of a former New Jersey Highway Authority official and three other witnesses testified yesterday in the Passaic County Grand Jury's probe of land acquisition in Clifton. After a four-hour session, the jury adjourned until 10 a.m. next Friday, when about 10 witnesses will probably be called. Mrs. Adele Elizabeth Lindauer, 215 Beverly Hill Road, Clifton, was inside the locked grand jury room about an hour. Her former husband, Charles Lindauer, was ousted in 1955 as head of the highway authority's right-of-way division. They were divorced last year. Yesterday's other witnesses were Ferdinand Frankl, 70 Christie Avenue, Clifton, former negotiator with the authority; Walter Goldberg, of Glen Ridge, the authority's chief condemnation counsel, and Gustav Werner, 41 Wilmore Road, Little Falls, former Clifton property owner. Three others, under subpoena to testify, were excused when it became apparent they could not be heard in the time allotted They were John Slothus, of Paterson, real estate appraiser, and Mr. and Mrs. John Kuzmich, 14 Ferncliffe Street, Clifton, owners of property taken for the Garden State Parkway. It was reported that Werner and the Kuzmichs had been represented in their negotiations with the highway authority by State Senator Frank W. Shershin, of Clifton. Lindauer was suspended in 1955 pending an investigation of his activities in the right-of-way division of the authority, which built and operates the Garden State Parkway. He resigned prior to a public hearing and no specific charges were made public at the time. The present grand jury probe arose from a report by the attorney general's office last spring which was critical of Lindauer and Shershin. The investigation is being conducted by the holdover September grand jury. Deputy Attorney General Julius J. Feinberg, of Newark, is handling it."

They were married June 20, 1941 and she contended her husband was extremely cruel between 1942 and 1954. She contended her husband kept goading her that she was out of her mind and he would have to do something about it. She added that he told them her husband needed more treatment than she did. "
