Bacons_Prayers

edit

Hi. If you are interested in carrying on the work on Bacon, let me know and I can set-up the whole text for you as scan, so that you can proofread it (see Help:Proofread). --Mpaa (talk) 01:21, 5 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi. I have set up the Index for you to work on. You can find it here: Index:The_Works_of_Francis_Bacon_(1884)_Volume_2.djvu, with a simplified TOC for you to navigate the volume. You can always refer to the IA link to easily access the whole text and browse it.

I have edited one page (page 405 at Page:The Works of Francis Bacon (1884) Volume 2.djvu/417) with some formatting that you can use as reference while you are getting familiar with the process. Pages in the Page Name spaces, when ready, will be transcluded to the Main namespace. To give you the flavor how how it works I have done a little demo for you in User talk:Danilloclm/Sandbox. If you change the page numbers, you will get also the other pages (note that page no. of the djvu is not necessarily the same as the text page no., due to additional pages, blank pages, etc.)

Do not know how familiar you are with WS. I suggest that if you are not familiar with the process, you go through the help page for proofreading and style guide and start proofreading pages. Next, you can start creating the structure of the text in the Main Namespace, but that can come later. If you want to see how pages look when transcluded, you can always do it in your sandbox. As the book has quite a complex structure,I suggest that you design how the whole book should be structured before you start creating the pages in the Main Namespace. TOC is good to have early, but it is closely related on how you set up the book in Main ns due to the wikilinks needed. Also, as Main Namespace is what the reader will see, it is desirable to put in Main ns only what is close to be ready. It is OK to have red link in the TOC of a work, like this Life_and_Works_of_Abraham_Lincoln/Volume_4, also because this stimulate proofreading from others, but it is not desirable to have a chapter to be transcluded with a lot of red links to pages, like this Natural_History_of_Pliny/Book_II, if they are going to stay for long.

Hope I have not dumped too much info on you, with the effect of discouraging you … :-) You have chosen a tough work as a whole, but the good part is that it can be sectioned in stand-alone parts, such as the Prayer's chapter.
Have a nice proofreading. BTW, you can answer here as this page is in my watchlist. If you do not hear from me for some time, then it means I am logged of, not that I do not care. You can always ask for help either here by placing the {{helpme}} template or at the Wikisource:Scriptorium. --Mpaa (talk) 23:34, 6 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
I have now transcluded Bacons Prayers directly from scans. --Mpaa (talk) 20:04, 7 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Dear Mpaa,

Thank you so much for your help and support!

It has been a difficult task to try to improve Francis Bacon's article in English Wikipedia... In trying to better the part about his philosophy and works, if I write without doing quotings, they erase it considering to be unreliable and original research; if I write doing quotings, they erase it considering to be "out of correct style".

I spent 5 days, whole afternoons and evenings, working on that article, added more than 60 new reliable bibliographical references and put into consideration many other works of Bacon which were not being considered before, such as his prayers, and also bettered the texts about the works that were already being considered. Then a user came and simply erased all I did in these 5 days. Everything was drawn from the authority of Bacon's own words, so you can't consider it unreliable; but for the "incorrect style" (too many direct quotings from Bacon, he said. I wonder who he wants me to quote in the text about Bacon's philosophy?). The man just came and erased everything (including the mention of Bacon's prayer, which you enjoyed...)! He could have pointed out the particular excerpts which needed to be bettered.

This is no consideration at all for someone's work. In writing scientific articles, it's not considered bad to use quotings from someone if you are analysing that one's philosophy and thought. This people just seem to determined to keep the article poorly written. This Wikipedia world is unthankful and frustrating indeed...

I've been trying also to upload certain of Bacon's work to wikisource, aside of Bacon's prayer - which you so kindly improved by indexing it to the Theological Tracts in the major volume. But I don't think I will be able to devote my time and attention in bettering and improving these contributions in wikisource, by indexing, proofreading, bettering the style and so on, until I am sure that the other "battle front" is won.

Thank you so much for your help and support, again! Danilloclm (talk) 16:57, 8 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

After they erased everything I did, I went back in the "history" of the article and rescued my contributions, edited them, and posted again. Let's see what will happen now... Danilloclm (talk) 17:00, 8 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

The Translation of Certain Psalms into English Verse

edit

Hi. If you want to proofread this, you can find it at Page:The Works of Francis Bacon (1884) Volume 2.djvu/443. It takes amost the same time as editing the new article. Mpaa (talk) 23:06, 8 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi. I've done it now. Didn't took much time, but the style still doesn't look nice. Take a look: The Translation of Certain Psalms into English Verse

An Advertisement Touching a Holy War

edit

I was considering also to create and proofread this one, which can be found at Page:The Works of Francis Bacon (1884) Volume 2.djvu/447

But... may I ask you: could we create and index this one as a scan?

It is already in an index. Just transclude the pages in the article you will create. However, this way forward should be temporary. The best way is to set-up the whole work and point to relevant sections with redirects.

Ok, I'll set up the whole work! When it's done I tell you. By the way, thank you for improving the Psalms' style! Danilloclm (talk) 13:07, 11 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Meditationes sacrae

edit

Hi. I have uploaded also Vol.1 of The Works of Francis Bacon. If you want to add new texts from Bacon, you can directly connect them to these scans rather than to external scans. For this specific one, see Page:The Works of Francis Bacon (1884) Volume 1.djvu/195. TOC is not really nice for these volumes, but you can always look for the work you need reading the online version for now. --Mpaa (talk) 11:53, 11 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thank you so much! I'll proofread Meditationes Sacrae from this work, and tell you when I do so! Danilloclm (talk) 13:18, 11 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
