A Confession (Maude’s translation)

edit

Hello. I am very sorry that one of your recent edits was caught by the edit filter, it was an apparent mistake. The filter has been corrected, so it should not happen again. I do apologize for the inconvenience. --Jan Kameníček (talk) 23:53, 3 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi, thanks a lot! I had given up on finding a way to contact an admin and had resigned to waiting it out. Now back to work :) Dswsrc (talk) 00:50, 4 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Just a little advice: We do not use the html entity —, instead we use directly the character , which you can find (and just click) either below the editing window, or among the "special characters" above the editing window. -- Jan Kameníček (talk) 01:01, 4 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, I've made a bit of a mess then: almost every page I edited prior to seeing this has an em dash in it. I favored — over the characters because the various dashes look so similar in the edit view, but if characters are preferred then that's what I'll use going forward. That is no problem. On the contrary, it is me who has to apologize again for the edit filter. By some unfortunate coincidence your edits hit another weak point. It was corrected again and for sure your user name was explicitly excluded so no other edit that you perform should be caugth by this filter anymore. --Jan Kameníček (talk) 09:39, 4 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
Incidentally, straightforward text replacements like — to can be easily performed by automated tools, if it's possible to specify a reasonable set of wikipages to perform the replacement on. For example, "all the pages associated with Index:War and Peace.djvu" would be a good such set. Feel free to request such tasks on WS:S/H, WS:S, or WS:BR. We're a little short on technically-minded contributors (i.e. those geeky enough to run such bots), so don't expect too snappy a response, but simple replacements are not in themselves a big job (not a lot of work) so feel free to ask for them if you need it.
