Footnotes

There's no need to go back and redo things you've already done, but I wanted to point out that {{footnote overflow}} isn't really used anymore. Instead on the first page we name the ref, e.g.

<ref name="page82note3">This is a</ref>

and on the second page we throw the continued text of the footnote on the bottom of the page with the follow parameter, e.g.

 <ref follow="page82note3">page-spanning footnote.</ref>.

Oh, one other thing. The last line on the end of a page is going to merge with the first line of the next page as one paragraph. If you want the paragraph to end with the page and the next page to start with a new paragraph, put {{nop}} on a new line at the bottom of that page.

New template for quote marks

Hi, just noticed your new template. We already have a series of templates ({{'}} etc.) that do something of what you're doing. Could these be used instead? The main reason I'm asking is that the thin-space character you've used shows up in some browsers as an unprintable character and when exporting to ePub shows as a question mark. This makes some texts unreadable without considerable mental energy. Cheers, Beeswaxcandle (talk) 09:17, 19 May 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for this input. Vaguely aware that such characters can pose some display problems in some situations (browser, font), i've been thinking about this for a while, and tonight chose the view of that it's time that those software get with the program.

Another possibility is to fiddle with "letter-spacing" or "padding-right" styles, but since those unicode chars already exist…

As you can see there were plans for more in the series. I'm not sure why they weren't all done, but if they would be useful to you please feel free to carry on. Template creation isn't high in my skill set, but if you need help check with AuFCL who is good at sorting out the logic. Beeswaxcandle (talk) 09:38, 19 May 2014 (UTC)

Thank you for the compliment, there was very little to do on that page, was easy. I usually don't care to mark my work as proofread, that's against my religion (unless i'm actually proofreading, which i find really tedious, so i leave that to others, ahem, cough, cough.
