Welcome edit

This user has been bribed to say nice things about Sherurcij's adminship.
Hello, Suicidalhamster, welcome to Wikisource! Thanks for your interest in the project; we hope you'll enjoy the community and your work here.

Please take a glance at our help pages (especially Adding texts and Wikisource's style guide). Most questions and discussions about the community are in the Scriptorium.

The Community Portal lists tasks you can help with if you wish. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me on my talk page. John Vandenberg 00:18, 9 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Excellent work wikifying On the Sufferings of the World - that is what helps set WS texts apart from Gutenberg or similar collections - the ability to add context to what the reader is viewing. Sherurcij Collaboration of the Week: Wikisource:Sheet music 21:01, 9 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

The best summary I've seen of WS policy is "Those who are doing the work, get to decide the styles" - this ranges from everything from my redoing Wikisource:Works to have colourful galleries and dozens of indexes - to a collaborative effort which led to Template:New texts having Christmas and Halloween themes (and soon, some other holiday). Basically, if you're the one doing the wikifying, nobody is going to tell you that you're wrong. My personal rule of thumb when wikifying, is to be a little more conservative than on WP - I wouldn't hyperlink w:New York, but I'd probably hyper link w:Minsk - I like to always hyperlink the names of people mentioned, and of course, if another book is mentioned I make a red link (or actual link) to it on Wikisource, not Wikipedia - in the hopes we one day add that book. Sherurcij Collaboration of the Week: Wikisource:Sheet music 22:16, 9 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I want to add my appreciation for the work you're doing in getting Schopenhauer's works up on-line. If I can help in any way just give a shout out! - Alcmaeonid 17:32, 10 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yes, welcome, and great work! Quadell 12:27, 11 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

New scripts updated edit

Thanks for taking an interest in my new scripts! I've updated them to automatically determine the previous page and next page links as well. Please let me know what you think, and especially let me know if they don't work when they should. The updated scripts are at User:Remember the dot/Sandbox. —Remember the dot (talk) 00:22, 12 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

page size edit

Hi, a few of the recent pages you have uploaded are a bit big to have on a single page. Can you break them up into chapters? John Vandenberg (chat) 23:04, 24 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yep I will split them, I was half planning to do so once all the text was Wikisource. Thanks Suicidalhamster 23:25, 24 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

lost something? edit

In this, it looks like "[Footnote 1: _Eudem. Eth_. VII. ii. 37.]" has been lost. ? John Vandenberg (chat) 01:16, 26 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

It is still there, it becomes reference 4, after the Greek quote from Aristotle. If that's the one you thought went missing? Suicidalhamster 01:33, 26 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
I see it now. Sorry, John Vandenberg (chat) 01:46, 26 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
No worries, its good to know there are people checking my edits! Suicidalhamster 17:35, 26 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Proofreading edit

I have finished proofreading Moral Instinct. —Quadell (talk / swapmeet) 00:24, 28 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

but wait, there is more edit

Thanks for adding a header to 1911 Encyclopædia Britannica/Airy, Sir George Biddell. If you are interested, there are many more EB1911 pages without a header: Category:Subpages with no header template.  ;-) John Vandenberg (chat) 22:30, 29 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Wow that's a surprisingly large category! When time permits I may take another look, I only got to George Biddell Airy by chance. Suicidalhamster 23:14, 29 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Archive edit

Hello,

I changed the protection to "autoconfirmed". Regards, Yann 22:48, 4 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Collaboration project edit

This weeks collaboration project is G. W. Bush. Please take the time this week to identify and/or transcribe one important work by, or involving, this very prominent person who is relevant to us all. John Vandenberg (chat) 02:29, 7 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Your help with header edit

Thank you for adding the previous and next.[1] That was extremely helpful. I know what to do now, and am continuing work on the chapters, slowly but surely. Stratford490 19:34, 14 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Index:Poems (Owen, 1920).djvu edit

RE: Wikisource:Scriptorium#DjVu not displaying next page arrow Could you put the links for the table of contents in the main space like at Personal Recollections of Joan of Arc? Then Index:Personal Recollections of Joan of Arc.djvu just has a single link back to the main space. Jeepday (talk) 00:34, 6 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ok I have removed the contents from the Index page so hopefully that will fix the problem. I will do a contents in the main space at some point! Suicidalhamster 16:49, 6 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
That seems to have fixed it. I would just build a page Poems (Owen, 1920), past in everything you just took out of the index (plus a header), then add a link on Index:Poems (Owen, 1920).djvu at Title, and a link under works at Author:Wilfred Owen. Jeepday (talk) 19:41, 6 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

patrol whitelist edit

Feel free to update User:JVbot/patrol whitelist whenever you think someone knows what they are doing on given set of pages. John Vandenberg (chat) 12:50, 2 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ok thanks, will do. Also, sorry, I didn't realise using the bots talk page stopped it operating. I know some enwiki bots have special subpages for that purpose. Suicidalhamster 13:39, 2 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

acim headers... edit

Thank you! :) Emesee 22:15, 3 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Anytime! Suicidalhamster 00:11, 4 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

That's four large books I've added that you've just added subheaders for, much thanks! Sherurcij Collaboration of the Week: Author:Charles Spurgeon 00:29, 4 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

The works of Horace edit

Hi, thanks for the double-checks. I did a bunch in one batch and in that many, a few mistakes are quite likely. I'll be doing the rest shortly. Cheers, Jack Merridew 05:16, 31 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Final push for the Proofread of the Month... edit

This month's Proofread of the Month, Index:The Pilgrim Cookbook.djvu, is still a ways away from being fully validated. However, we're within striking distance.

If all ten members proofread just two (but preferably three) pages a day, we'll be able to finish the book before the end of the month.

We can do it. :) EVula // talk // 01:20, 24 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ignore him, we just got a new CotW - waaay sexier! Sherurcij Collaboration of the Week: Author:Isaac Brock 01:55, 24 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Agrippa's Occult Philosophy edit

Hi, and thanks for your help with Three Books of Occult Philosophy! I wondered if you might be able to help with a request I had on the author's talk page as well. Plus I really like your user page! Lusanaherandraton (talk) 06:16, 22 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

I'm glad you like my page, it was User:Quadell who put the hamster on the picture! I have deleted the redirect and moved the page so should all be ok now. Suicidalhamster (talk) 13:42, 23 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

SBDEL link edit

That change is okay with me. As a thought, do you see some benefit in us (lightly) prescribing somewhere the format that we use for Enc/Dict type works? Maybe a light way we could do is to describe how to build a template and the code for it. Also the use of lower case l not L.-- billinghurst (talk) 22:18, 5 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Cousin's short bios edit

I'm just dabbling with the dictionary, you may have other plans so just take then as suggestions. I did Blake and a couple of others a little while back, but I stopped in case it interferes with your work. I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out, cheers. Cygnis insignis (talk) 19:38, 16 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Feel free to carry on dabbling, I am sure it will not interfer. I like the formatting you used on page 50, so at some point I may begin changing other pages to match it (of course feel free to do that yourself!). If you have any ideas on improving the pages feel free to say. At the moment I am just transferring the text to the Page namespace, so nothing very special! Suicidalhamster (talk) 23:07, 16 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
I will have a look in another look in a little while. I thought of a couple of things you might do while you are moving the text, a little find and replace routine. Cheers, Cygnis insignis (talk) 18:49, 17 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
If this was a new work, adding this sort of thing 26 times is what I would have done. 27 with the appendix [available at gutenberg, btw]. References from elsewhere, and the (q.v.) links, could be deep linked /B#Blake, Bill instead of /Blake, Bill. It makes it more browsable and gives some context to the entries, As others have done it differently the options are more complex, having both is possible I suppose. I did some of the formatting, replacing bold with smallcaps, for the 'Ba' entries in the example. I forgot to add '—' and remove the fullcaps. A script in a text editor would handle this while you have the edit window open, my slack version wrapped the dates which would be problematic if there is a 'c.' or 'd.' in there. Adding lefttext to the div class was a whim, I believe indented-page is more flexible. Like I say, dabbling, do what you think works. Cygnis insignis (talk) 00:20, 18 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
If you want to force a word in all capitals to sc, you can wrap in {{sc|{{subst:ucfirst:{{subst:lc:TEXT}}}}}}. I have even got it as a button on my toolbar if of interest. Note if you block a phrase that this just capitalises the first letter, not the first capital of each word. If there are things that we may be able to botify, let me know. billinghurst (talk) 02:47, 18 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

DNB redirects edit

I've just restored Francis Hutchinson (DNB00). There are a couple of reasons that this as redirect to Hutchinson, Francis (DNB00) is useful rather than untidy. The first is the actual reason I found it (there was a Wikipedia link to the 'wrong' (usual) name order and that had been broken, dereferencing an article). The second can be seen in the article itself, where there are hyperlinks created to various DNB articles that may exist one day, using the usual order, and it's going to be better to create the redirects rather than go round inverting names. Just thought I should mention my thinking on this. Charles Matthews (talk) 16:37, 22 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

That woas been my faux pas, plus Suicidalhamster deleted it as a non-existent redirect, which is quite right and expected under the speedy deletion rules. billinghurst sDrewth 23:01, 22 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
No criticism was intended, since the deletion was at author's request (and the link broken on WP resulted from that, if I'm not confused). I was explaining why the action was reversed. Charles Matthews (talk) 08:49, 23 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
