Proofread
editMarking a page as "Proofread" does not simply mean that the spellings are correct. The page should match the source in spelling, in punctuation, and in formatting. Marking a page "Proofread" means it matches the original so closely that is is ready for use by the public. Pages are not proofread if there is extraneous content on the page, centered test is not centered, or other major deviations from the original. --EncycloPetey (talk) 20:29, 27 August 2024 (UTC)
- Firstly, thank you for your warm welcome! It has encouraged me to set aside regular time for contributing to Wikisource.
- Regarding proofreading, I believe you’re referring to this page, where I initially transcribed the content but missed correcting the header. I submitted a follow-up to fix it shortly after. If there's another instance where I made an error, please let me know—I want to make sure I’m doing things correctly.
- In the future, if I notice a mistake after marking a page as proofread, is there a specific procedure I should follow to correct it? In open-source software, I would typically squash commits together, but I didn't see an equivalent option here.
- I also understand that onboarding new community members can be a lot of work, and I want to be respectful of your time. If these questions are better suited for Wikisource/Scriptorium/Help, I’m happy to post them there. I really the help you have extended so far as I work learn the norms of this community. - You can always make further corrections to a page. I noticed on the page that you shrank the size of the chapter title, even though it is not in a smaller font. You also left a space in front of an exclamation mark, which should not be there. --EncycloPetey (talk) 17:54, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for catching the errors. I've made what will hopefully by my final update to the page to remove the errant space and to change the title to be visible and a slightly larger size, as matches the scan.
- To explain where I went wrong, I made the mistake of presuming that the title sizes were supposed to match throughout the transcribed book, rather than to solely literally reflect what was on the page. So I went to an earlier page that had already been proofread, and matched the style of the title on that page to this one. The.eclectic.library (talk) 18:24, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
- It looks larger at first glance, but compare the size of the capital T and G with the size of the T and G in the regular text just below it. The chapter title isn't actually larger, it just seems that was initially because it's in all capitals, so it fools your brain. --EncycloPetey (talk) 18:32, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
