Category:Collective works

Could you perhaps define what is meant by a collective work on that category page? I would have thought that the Federalist Papers were a collective work since they were written independently by a number of authors. --Spangineer^wp (háblame) 20:31, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

GFDL

Hello Zhaladshar,

I write to you in reference of the GFDL. It says:

Everyone is permitted to copy and distribute verbatim copies
 of this license document, but changing it is not allowed

, so even having copyright, it allow us to copy it. Don't find a deep discussion about it, so please, could you tell me if it can be re-added to wikisource?. Hide edit toolbar

Hey. I noticed you added code to your javascript file to hide the edit toolbar. You can also disable it in Preferences > Editing > uncheck "Show edit toolbar (JavaScript)". This will prevent it from loading at all, instead of just hiding it. :) —{admin} Pathoschild 02:24, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

Anon edits on copyright questions

I am a little perplexed by certain edits on the cureent disputes over copyright. This one in particular seems to be obviously of bad faith. There are many others which come from anonymous adresses (unusual for debates on community pages on Wikisource, although I completely agree that anonymous users make a welcome contribution to the project). I formally and publically request a CheckUser on User:Maiios and User:Sherurcij to see if they are connected with the IP addresses 81.229.40.212, 134.117.254.250, 212.123.24.90 or other anons who have commented on these proposals. Griswold v. Connecticut

Isn't the header kindof redundant with the template used at the right of the page? personally i don't like it and all the information in it is represented in the template to the right. I'd like to use this in US supreme court cases instead of the header. its an easy to read standard format.--Metal.lunchbox 21:16, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

I'm not sold on the universal greatness of the header template esp "by [[Author:|]]", but if thats the consensus then its worth complying with for the moment. I just built USSCcase last night and it's got a long way to come but believe that a template for US supreme court cases could be of use. hows the new template? Griswold v. Connecticut. The template is neccessary to navigate the parts of the case and for forward refferencing, which of course isn't present in the original documents. Yeah I thought about that and I think its a good idea. but the nature of SCOTUS cases is a little different from novels. authoring a decision is important but voting is equally important. I guess thats not really our juridicsion here at WS but Yes i'd like to have linking to author page for Judges. I'll have to think about a few issues with that before we start. Letters to Sheldon Vanauken

The following letters by C. S. Lewis were written to Sheldon Vanauken, who ultimately wrote the best-selling book A Severe Mercy. Mr. Vanauken asked Lewis for the right to use the letters in his booklet "Encounter with Light," and Lewis gave permission. Mr. Vanauken subsequently put the letters in the public domain.

CommonsTicker: Ticker Trouble

As you may have noticed, there have been some problems with CommonsTicker lately:

• first, the toolserver was down. After it was back up, we had to wait for fresh database dumps.
• also, many updates where failing because ticker pages where growing too large. Updates that went through half-way somtimes also caused entries to be posted multiple times, making the problem worse.
• when I tried to improve performance, I introduced a bug that caused the ticker to post trash sometimes. I disabled the ticker again when I was told about it, and I have fixed all effected pages yesterday (I hope I didn't miss any).

To sort this out completely, I have to rewrite parts of CommonsTicker. For now, I will enable the ticker again for most wikis, but not for the ones that where having most trouble - namely de-wikipedia, en-wikinews, eo-wikipedia, es-wikipedia, fr-wikipedia, ja-wikipedia, ru-wikipedia, simple-wikipedia and zh-wikipedia. I'll have to investigate those more closely.

So please keep an eye on CommonsTicker in the next days - if there is any more trouble, please tell me, preferrably on meta:User_talk:Duesentrieb/CommonsTicker.

Aesop's Fables

I'm not sure if it was you or User:Bookofjude who broke all the Aesop's Fables links by deleting the pages Aesop's Fables-1, Aesop's Fables-2, etc., apparently without any discussion anywhere, in mid-2006. I had stopped watching Wikisource closely at that point, and didn't notice that it had happened. Anyway, if you could undelete the six-page collection of Townsend translations, that would be nice. If it's been unrecoverably deleted, please look at the "What links here" pages and fix all the broken links. ("You broke it, you bought it.") --Quuxplusone 03:53, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

Point is, when you break something, you should fix it. Checking "What links here" before page deletion, and fixing broken links, is every editor's responsibility. (As a secondary point: I really can't understand why you split up Townsend's original, sorted work into a bunch of disconnected, unsorted Wikisource pages; I liked being able to see the fables in context.
