National People's Congress of the People's Republic of China

The National People's Congress (NPC) is the unicameral national legislature and highest organ of state power in the the People's Republic of China. It is empowered to pass legislation, including basic laws that only the NPC can make. The NPC normally only convenes once a year. When it is not in session, its standing committee (NPCSC), can also make and amend legislation, excluding basic laws. Most of its nearly 3,000 deputies are members of the Communist Party of China.
