Hello Slgrandson, welcome to Wikisource! Thanks for your interest in the project; we hope you'll enjoy the community and your work here.

You'll find an (incomplete) index of our works listed at Wikisource:Works, although for very broad categories like poetry you may wish to look at the categories like Category:Poems instead.

Please take a glance at our help pages (especially Adding texts and Wikisource's style guide). Most questions and discussions about the community are in the Scriptorium.

The Community Portal lists tasks you can help with if you wish. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me on my talk page! John Vandenberg (chat) 21:08, 9 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Gadsby

edit

Hi, I saw it with multiple headers per page and couldn't work out what had happened. I never thought of pressing "match" more than once. Well spotted. Do the instructions at Help:Match and Split need amending to prevent others doing this? Beeswaxcandle (talk) 03:14, 4 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Invention of Printing and Theodore Low De Vinne

edit

Thanks for looking at this and fixing it up! I meant to fix the pd tag, and finish up the index page and forgot about it. I hope changing the author page you created to a redirect to the page was the correct course as I had already created an author page for Mr. De Vinne. Test edit message

edit

Hi, thanks for posting that test edit message at User_talk:108.203.83.102. I thought there was something I'd missed when I marked the article and talk {{sdelete}}, but couldn't put my finger on it. :) —Clockery Fairfield (talk) 14:44, 7 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Kutenai Tales

edit

Hello Slgrandson,

It was a very pleasant and very unexpected surprise to find you working on Kutenai text and page layouts. I could hardly believe it was happening. And I am quite confused as to how you could be doing it at all. It looks a little beyond of what I think are ordinary human abilities.

Now, I am confused about the manner of presentation of those tales. I want to create a mainspace page for each individual tale. I believe readers should be able, depending on their preference, to access the English-only version of every tale just as well as the bilingual version. However, I have problems thinking how to realize that. Have you got any ideas? Tar-ba-gan (talk) 19:02, 20 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Fairy tales...

edit

Hey, I saw your ping on The Violet Fairy Book. Glad to see someone taking an interest in these books: they'd be a good thing to have complete in our collection.

But a note of caution: our existing texts of the tales in these books are usually from a different edition, or, in the case of those copied from Gutenberg, from an indeterminate amalgamation of multiple editions. If you copy that text into the Page: pages for the specific edition we have a scan for you will have to apply an unusually fine-toothed comb when proofreading. In my experience it is actually much better (and less work) to proofread directly from OCR text than try to reuse Gutenberg texts, in particular. This will vary based on the text in question and your own preference when proofreading, of course, but it's worth keeping in mind the need for extra vigilance in these cases. --Xover (talk) 13:46, 10 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Dominica

edit

Hi Dylan, I saw your work on Index:The History of the Island of Dominica.djvu. My good friend User:Shanluan is also from Dominica, and I pointed it out to her; she leads the Wikimedians of the Caribbean user group. I thought you two might enjoy getting acquainted, you seem to have a lot in common. You may want to reach out to her on Wikipedia or Meta, she is not an active Wikisourcer (yet!) -Pete (talk) 18:57, 26 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

I have a bot that adds the raw headers at the very end of transcription. You don't have to do it yourself if you don't want to. But thank you for validating those pages for me! PseudoSkull (talk) 11:47, 3 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Please do not overwrite works

edit

Hi. Please do not overwrite old editions of works at enWS, please transclude them under a new work title/rootpage. If we need to move and update, then we will. These days there is too much stuff in the background with works, disambiguations, WD data, etc. and when one partially overwrites it gets horribly screwed. This is even more complex when we have old old old versions around that were not set up with the same rigour and methodology we currently use. Thanks. — billinghurst sDrewth 07:20, 3 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
