Thank you for your help on this page. I was working on finding out the best way to execute this list. Stamlou (talk) 20:18, 19 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

I tried using your method and haven't succeeded. Can you please help with this page too. Thank you. Stamlou (talk) 21:56, 19 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

No consensus for replacement

Please do not be changing the use of {{ext scan link}} to something else, there is no consensus for such a replacement and it makes zero difference. You do the most trivial and nonsensical things at times. — billinghurst sDrewth 13:23, 26 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Billinghurst:. Okay, Do you want me to start reverting en-masse, which I am quite prepared to do.ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 13:27, 26 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Template:!((‎

that is just a bad and confusing idea. It is not necessary to force that in such a way. If truly needed they can use unicode. — billinghurst sDrewth 11:22, 27 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Or HTML entities possibly? I agree with you on this. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 11:29, 27 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Image broke in EB1911

Hi, I found your recent edit on Page:EB1911 - Volume 17.djvu/652 on 16th Feb. stopped the image being displayed. I've since fixed it, but is there some check you can do before saving the edits? Thanks. DivermanAU (talk) 22:55, 4 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

I normally preview. Thanks for being sharp eyed. :) ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 22:58, 4 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
No problem, I just fixed another of your edits from a couple of years ago: you had "fromsection=section=s3" in 1911 Encyclopædia Britannica/Testaments of the Twelve Patriarchs which stopped the first page displaying. DivermanAU (talk) 04:55, 6 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Statutes of the Realm & Statutes of UK

Hi,

Only just realized that you have added Statutes of the Realm & Statutes of the UK 1795 - 1971 to Wikisource. Great work, thank you!

Also found that Wikisource now has a button for using Google's own OCR system, which looks to give better results than Wikisource's own system. Looks worse than it is due to line breaks going missing, but otherwise decent enough. Technolalia (talk) 18:32, 9 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

I didn't add them, other contributors did, and the series used for the Statutes is not necessarily a consistent one Glad you noticed though.

If you were up for adding a suitable series run of Statutory Rules/Instruments, feel free. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 18:37, 9 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

After my change of file, you have pagelisted it without clearing cache and importing pagelist from earlier source. Hrishikes (talk) 06:52, 12 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

I've removed the pagelist entirely now. Please re-pagelist the corrected file from the correct version. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 07:43, 12 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Hrishikes: Also I would strongly suggest uploading the "corrected" file under a new filename/index, so it is less confusing. BTW what was actually wrong with the CDL derived scan? ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 07:47, 12 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Hrishikes: Please upload the correct version (with a complete pageset) under a new distinct filename. Thanks. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 08:10, 12 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
I have uploaded the file on request. Please check the index talk page and participate in the discussion there. Hrishikes (talk) 11:42, 12 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
I uploaded the original as djvu here Index:A manual of the Nílagiri district in the Madras Presidency.djvu. I then did a pagelist and found no missing pages. It should now also have a good text layer :)ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 17:27, 12 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Please help me with {{no scan}}

Hello!

I can easily back up my contribution, A Treaty Between the Government of New Jersey and the Indians, with a scan. But am not sure exactly how to do it. I can upload the file to Commons, but what do I put on Wikisource? Because the source of the text will still be my website. Psiĥedelisto (talk) 14:20, 24 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Lapsus Calami (1891)

@Billinghurst Hi, I have been doing work on the above (mostly proofreading, some validation), the bulk of which was inputted by @Beleg Tâl, and I have a query.

The bulk of the work consists of poetry in English, but the author has chosen to write some in other languages (French, Latin and Greek). In these instances, rather than transcribing the actual content of the work, an English translation (by Wikisource) is provided. The actual content has been transcribed as odd pages on the Wikisource site of the respective language (although I thought the transcription of parts of works was against Wikisource policy). The transclusion of the non-English language poems is done by pulling these pages from Latin wikisource, etc., so the transclusion checker shows the respective pages of 'Lapsus Calami' as not being transcluded (so I can't legitimately change the index page transclusion status), and the translations don't actually appear anywhere. Also, most of the translations are presented in the same verse and stanza layout as the original, although they appear to be literal translations, with little or no attempt to match the rhyme scheme or metre of the original (at least one of the poems in Latin appears to be intended to be sung to a specific tune — you see the point).

My question is, shouldn't the original be transcribed as part of the work, in the work, on this Wikisource, in the original language, as the author intended? If wanted, a translation, as unformatted prose, can be included, as a Wikisource annotation (e.g. as a footnote or using {{tooltip}}). I have done transcriptions of works written in French by the likes of Matthew Arnold and Algernon Charles Swinburne (both Victor Hugo fanboys, as the young folks would have it) but haven't transcribed them on French Wikisource and then translated them on the English site.

Thoughts?

P.S. If you download the work, neither the transclusions based on the pulled through pages nor the English translations (being untranscluded) appear. I've checked the PDF version and ePub, but not Kindle. Chrisguise (talk) 10:28, 7 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Chrisguise: I'm not the best person to ask about how Interwiki transclusion works on export. If it doesn't appear that content which is transcluded from another wiki is being 'exported', than that is perhaps something to raise as an appropriately worded issue on Phabricator.
ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 10:43, 7 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Also did you mean to leave your message on someone else's talk page? ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 10:45, 7 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yes. I picked up you, Billinghurst and Beleg Tâl, from the history list of one of the pages featuring a non-English work, and hoped you might know. Chrisguise (talk) 15:34, 7 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Chrisguise: We are English Wikisource, and transclude English language works, and these can include incidental foreign language components. We aren't here to transclude foreign language works which rightly belong on the respective language wiki. And yes, some works by authors or editors make this troublesome on occasions. Otherwise, this is not the place to discuss community matters, especially around things that refer to community consensus. Please use WS:Scriptorium. — billinghurst sDrewth 04:36, 9 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Centering

With changes like [1] - shouldn't {{c}} be used, or is there a benefit from the start/end template on the same line? Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 20:51, 27 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

The conversion was because it was an easy regex to do from the HTML. If you want to convert to using {{c}} directly, feel free. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 21:55, 27 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

center errors

I see two things in this edit [2]

(1) You inserted right braces into a heading, where they shouldn't be.
(2) Use of {{center}} around a {{rule}} is superfluous. It could just be removed. --EncycloPetey (talk) 22:36, 28 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

File:Style01.png

Is File:Style01.png needed any more or can it be deleted? Xover (talk) 15:53, 30 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Xover:Not sure, I don't recall how I solved the issue that this was meant to explain. No reason to retain if it's not useful though.
BTW Can you take a look at the last remaining LintErrors for "Obselete tags" in Main and Page: namespaces? I did a massive amount of conversions away from Template:Html tags recently. Once those are resolved, it's only relatively minor missing italics/bold that need to be looked at in terms of content namespace lint stuff. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 16:06, 30 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
The file either needs to be deleted or it needs info and license templates added. Xover (talk) 16:49, 30 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Template:HTML/testcases

I'm working on implementing {{HTML}} with a Lua module. Does its behavior look correct to you, and is there anything else you'd like to test? —CalendulaAsteraceae (talkcontribs) 02:06, 5 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

@CalendulaAsteraceae:
  1. It's generating some mal-formed output, as I'm seeing some Linterrors detected,
  2. I had also used this for pseudo tags, (although those should probably be converted to use the Wikitext support in Syntaxhighlight. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 05:52, 5 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
  1. I think the lint errors are being caused by <!-- and -->.
  2. Should {{HTML}} use Syntaxhighlight?
CalendulaAsteraceae (talkcontribs) 02:58, 6 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
On point 2. I'm not sure.ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 05:49, 6 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
I think that depends where you stand on the relative merits of syntax highlighting and linking to Wikipedia within the example code. Personally I think that syntax highlighting is a lot more useful, and I can't find any uses of the link parameter. Also FWIW Syntaxhighlight seems to fix the lint errors. —CalendulaAsteraceae (talkcontribs) 20:47, 6 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Noted, but I think SyntaxHighlight is also 'expensive'. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 20:48, 6 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
So it is. In that case, I'd still support wrapping the output in nowiki tags to avoid generating spurious errors.
What do you mean by pseudo tags? Does this template support your use case? —CalendulaAsteraceae (talkcontribs) 00:43, 8 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
I mean the XML/HTML like tags used by certain extensions, Testing: <poem>...</poem> and <math>...</math> works :) ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 05:54, 8 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Cool! —CalendulaAsteraceae (talkcontribs) 03:45, 9 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Tone deaf?

I have said it before, and I will say it again, when I am doing a work, I have an expectation that you just keep clear when I am doing it. I also have an expectation that you don't do your Index: page fiddles. I do not agree with your rubbish edits of title page, etc. I am perfectly capable of doing these things on my own. Thanks. — billinghurst sDrewth 10:17, 6 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

1862 Territory of Dakota Session Laws

Regarding the sidenotes tags... not that it makes a huge difference, but they don't need to be in the middle of the page (at the top and bottom of the sections to be transcluded.). The {{default layout|Layout 2}} on the target page takes care of the margin. If you look at the documentation of the templates (sidenotes begin and sidenotes end) they actually don't do anything in the main namespace, and only belong in the header and footer. The only difference it seems to make is causing the stuff inbetween (the rule, when it's not full width) to be centered on the page instead of over the columns, and in the source they are centered over the columns. Young India

Hi, Could you please explain what are the issues with "pagelisting [them] in current form"? Thanks, Yann (talk) 20:37, 15 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

I was sometimes having to refresh the pagelist view for a given page multiple times, to get an accurate scan to load. I am slowly clearing the issue, but it's going to be a easier longer term to usedjvu over pdf, as this seems to be a perennial issue. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 21:04, 15 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Well, I mostly upload these are archives. They are certainly not in my priority list, so I won't do anything about them right now. However I would be glad if anyone wants to work on them. Yann (talk) 11:49, 16 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Please don't mark pages proofread, when they are not.

Please don't change the consistency of formats, proofread or validated works, and replace templates on the fly just because you feel like it. I use proportional templates and the {{parabr}} template has a fixed value of .5em and I won't use it. Font sizes of less than 100% and their proportional line height were calculated and tested long long ago.

You have no clue about the time I put into planning this project since I uploaded it. Every page, header, and font size is being standardized throughout the six volumes. Since I can't ask editors with less experience to follow it, I took it upon to standardize everything, but you went and changed good work for no gain. In addition, you marked incomplete pages as proofread.

If you want to contribute, I suggest inserting {{nop}} where it's needed. Even if the pages are not proofread. — ineuw (talk) 06:05, 22 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Ineuw: Thanks for the heads up. I'd certainly not been intentionally changing the status of pages when deLinting fixes and I certainly wouldn't not intentionally change an incomplete page to being proofread, so I'm puzzled as to why pages changed status unexpectedly, Can you list some specific examples? ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 06:19, 22 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Please check for yourself, by looking at the differences of your contributions and my latest edits.
Now, I noticed that you are putting back the "&nbsp" I removed yesterday. The spaces you see around the mdash are naturally forced by the wrap line break. I removed all "&nbsp" surrounding the mdash from volumes 1 and 2 because there is no space surrounding mdash in English. I used it where the hyphen and the mdash were indistinguishable. I have solid reasons why I do things simply based on testing the concepts and matching it to the original pages according to what I see. Even if it's not the same on your display, at least it's consistent. — ineuw (talk) 07:10, 22 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Ineuw: I'm in the process of reverting as many contributions I made to this work as possible (Some I can't because you or other contributors made intervening edits. I apologise if this creates additional work for your in repairs , but it seems the simplest approach to ensure a consistent formatting. Much appreciated if you could provide an explict style guide, so this isn't yo-yo cycled between conflicting approaches ? ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 07:12, 22 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Ineuw: - All I'm doing this morning is attempting to back to your versions. My apologies if this is the "wrong" version. If you want me to pause whilst you figure out just how 'conflicted' the style and formatting has become, I can do that, but the reason I generally ask for specfic examples is so that I have some basis (such as a search pattern) for finding such edits with specfic tools (like search) withotu having to search thousands of edits.ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 07:17, 22 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
In respect of the mdash spacing example, can you give me a SPECIFIC example of where this changed, as generally I had been removing the spacing around mdash, per what you say you had been ? ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 09:00, 22 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
I've now reverted as many of the {{parabr}} additions as I could find. I've also sorted out some structural lints that had crept in during the reverts. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 14:47, 22 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Stop it

Please stop your bothering users about historical editing, especially on user talk pages. This is becoming pointless noise that achieves nothing but noise. You are getting your knickers in a twist about all the wrong things. — billinghurst sDrewth 21:20, 23 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

As I seem to be against consensus here, I am not going to have an argument. I will however be continuing with the cleanup of unpaired italics in ns104 I was doing. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 21:39, 23 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Please stop interfering

Please stop interfering into every project I start. FIND YOUR OWN! No gentle hint helps us to make you realize that your behavior is disruptive. Consider the community's reactions to your past actions elsewhere, because this will lead to my proposing to the community to suspend you. Is it worth it? — ineuw (talk) 16:24, 29 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

As it seems my efforts to be "helpful" are considered disruptive. I think the simplest answer is that I just stop trying to be "helpful". ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 16:31, 29 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Also do you happen to have a list of active projects? That way I can ignore them in respect of the 'deliniting' efforts, which to some extent I had already been doing because other contributors mentioned they were already working on certain things.
