Allende's Chile

I just uploaded some pages: commons:Category:Allende's Chile (CIA report)

I don't think these pages are "problematic," so much as...some work remains to get them finished, and the images will of necessity be rather low quality. Right? I know there are varying opinions, but just to share my thinking -- I typically use the "problematic" label if there is a problem with the source document (e.g., the page was folded when scanned), or if there is a copyrighted/fair use image used in the middle of an otherwise free work. Thoughts? -Pete (talk) 19:16, 19 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Oh, I meant to lead with this -- thanks, as always, for working on these! It's always a nice surprise to see somebody unexpectedly working on a text I've uploaded. -Pete (talk) 20:27, 19 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
I was told that if there was a missing image to flag the page as problematic, if you think it's not of the same severity as say a damaged page etc., then I think a further disscussion is needed.

Diacritics in Asoka

Friend, you are doing mistakes in rendering diacritics in Asoka; as in this page, which I have corrected. So you need to understand the principle used in this work. This work uses the circumflex, and not the acute accent, for rendering long vowels; and the macron for the same purpose when quoting others (if used there originally). The author has used circumflex in Rummindêî but macron in the transliteration of that inscription because that was a quotation from Führer's work. The acute accent has been used for long vowels in A History of Hindu Chemistry Vol 1, but not in this work. So you need not usually bother with it in this work. Additionally, this work uses underdot for rendering retroflex letters and overdotted m for rendering Anusvara. So basically you need to bother with four marks only: circumflex, macron, underdot and overdot. As for your question regarding unicode for this script, it was written in Brahmi script. Unicode is available, see Brahmi (Unicode block). But the work itself uses image, so you also have to use image. The unicode for this script will not be readable in most browsers. SVG and PNG formats found in c:Category:Brahmi letters can be used, however. Pictures of Asoka edicts available at c:Category:Brahmi script. Brahmi font available here and here. Best wishes, Hrishikes (talk) 03:17, 21 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Thanks - Tyring to read the diacritics in this isn't easy so thanks for the hints.ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 10:59, 21 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
Smallcaps template requires the text to be in small letters, otherwise it won't work. On rechecking, the work does use the acute accent, but only for rendering the velar s. The author exempts Asoka's name, which he spells without acute, although the sibilant is velar. Hrishikes (talk) 15:42, 21 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

You have made me very happy today, with your efforts to proofread the final pages of Olmsted report on Portland, Oregon parks. This was one of my first projects on Wikisource, and I have been nibbling at it for years, with some excellent help in terms of guidance, but very little help in the actual labor. It's a very important document to Portland history, and I've often toyed with the idea of printing out a nice, readable copy of it and making a gift to the members of City Council and other interested folks -- who generally recognize its importance, but find it difficult to read blurry PDF scans!

Your help is unexpected, and much appreciated. The last mile is always the hardest! -Pete (talk) 23:22, 26 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Lulu or PediaPress Edition? It still needs proper conversion to bureau quality though...ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 23:44, 26 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
I'm not familiar with Lulu..? PediaPress, I have nearly given up on as viable for Wikisource texts (per a recent discussion with @George Orwell III:, a month or two back -- which I still need to loop back to). I'm not sure what "bureau quality" is -- do you mean the validation process? Yes, there's more work to be done, but...this is a big step regardless!
(The best idea I have is to copy-paste into a word processor and clean it up prior to printing. Which is..suboptimal, but far better than any other options I'm aware of. Curious about Lulu, though.) -Pete (talk) 00:03, 27 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
I'll note...with some trepidation...that I just found a more complete scan of this document available on Google Books, including the ~10 pages before this appendix. (Must have become available since I started -- I searched high and low for it a few years ago!) Suppose I were to upload that to Commons: do you happen to know of a bot or script that could move these pages we have already transcribed over to the new index? -Pete (talk) 00:19, 27 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

vague ramblings of a marginally coherent idiot

No one seems to have shown any interest in helping with the interview for the wikipedia Signpost yet, which kinda makes me feel unwanted and unloved. Gonna cry now. ;) I was wondering if you might be interested in doing so. Like I said on the Scriptorium page, getting together an appealing version of ourselves for presentation in the Signpost might be one of the better ways to get a few more editors involved here.

On a completely unrelated point, I was wondering whether you knew of any sort of attempt here to do something of a kind of "textual" alternative to the w:WP:1.0 effort. I am not of course sure, but I have a feeling anyway that one way to maybe draw in at least a few editors from wikipedia here might be to set up a clearly designated page or group of pages indicating where specific sources related to the articles included in one of the release versions of wikipedia, maybe starting with w:Wikipedia:Version 0.5. So, for instance, maybe indicating the Encyclopedia Britannica article on, for instance, Algeria, as a possible accompaniment to the wikipedia article on Algeria. Or, for people, maybe listing their most notable work(s) (if an author), or the best biography of them available in the PD, or something along those lines, might be of some benefit to both. And, of course, for those articles about books or poems, the books or poems themselves. It might take some work, but do you think it might be at all useful to set up a page listing those possible "collaborations" which could maybe be mentioned on the main page as an occasional alternative to listing WikiProject NARA all the time there? John Carter (talk) 18:06, 30 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

I am not the best person to interview on wikisource matters, I don;t contribute anything like the amount of material other people do. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 09:32, 2 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
You might be right, but the level of contribution isn't the only factor. At this point, honestly, being a live body willing to answer questions might be enough, considering the lack of responses I've gotten to date. I can and have and will again contact others, but if nothing else having multiple people respond to the questions gives a stronger impression of activity than just one individual. Hi! Can you please be more specific about your file fixing comments, so that I can correct the same? The title page of Index:The English Works of Raja Rammohun Roy Vol 2.djvu is not a problem, because it can be proofread from copying material from title page of Vol 1. As for Index:Confessions of a Thug.djvu, removal of Google frontsheet is not mandatory as on date. Illegible pages can be proofread by copying from Gutenberg. I don't think many people know England's history. I have only known bits and pieces of it so I started working on these volumes to learn more as I work on them. When a person says, "I am British", does that mean they were born in England or a former British colony like New Zealand, or Australia? I think we all tend to dearly love the nation of our birth. Not sure why

I am not sure why you do page numbering like you have done in Index:More Australian legendary tales.djvu (noting that I do these things in the works I upload anyway). To me your style is of little to no value in my opinion. The pages actually have silent number, and it is more value to be able to wikilink to them as page numbers, rather than to some false text reference. I know that they have specific names in the publishing industry to define the make up of a book, but I do not see any value to us, especially when it is transcluded it is pretty obvious what it is, and having a bit fat page label that says [copyright] is pointless and ugly (again in my opinion). — billinghurst sDrewth 06:15, 24 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Non-standard pagelists

Hi, I was just looking at Index:History of Barrington, Rhode Island (Bicknell).djvu that you helped a new editor with. Help:Index pages#Parameters has some long-established guidelines on how to designate the various pages in the subsection the Pagelist tag. On this work I note that you have used an emdash for all the full-page images as well as the blank pages. This is unhelpful both on the Index page and in the Mainspace—when the work is transcluded these will show as [—] in the page number link. Also, two pages were marked with {{mark}}. This is incorrect as the colour is not overridden by the proofreading process. Could you please start standardising your pagelists in accordance with the guidelines?

In fixing this pagelist I note some inefficiencies that if removed would considerably reduce the size of some of the longer lists. We only need to restart the page numbering after each image and don't need to declare the page immediately before an image. Also quotation marks are only needed when there is a space character in the page name, or with emdashes. Best, Beeswaxcandle (talk) 07:52, 18 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Right well, the above goes against what I was told by another contributor, but thanks for the guidelines :) ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 10:07, 19 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
And further to the above, I was told explicitly by another contributor NOT to encode Cvr, Frontspeice, Title, Half-title directly and to use the em-dash I had been. If it's sufficently important that the apparent MoS are followed, then the Proofreading interface should be modified so it's possible to record WHAT the page numbers are directly in Page: namespace, which can then be picked up by the Index:.
The reason for encoding the page 'before' images was to act as a redundant check on the process. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 10:12, 19 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
I have never said to use an emdash, and I would normally use an endash, being that hyphens are a pain the arse at times to click upon when font size is reduced. Template:Mark is your creation; and another of your creations for which I stand with bemusement in its creation ... it should be sent to God, and that it isn't even documented is not up to standard. BWC is right in the general guidance about page numbering start and finish, though has overlooked that there are other characters that need to be quoted, but that is neither here nor there. I have just seen that guidance for cvr, title, fpiece, and I fervently disagree with it. Primarily many of those pages have numbers. That is not a discussion for this page, and I have utilised the appropriate talk page to further that discussion. — billinghurst sDrewth 12:52, 19 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Many thanks for discovering that in 1917 edition of the book, 2 pages are missing, before I ever did anything about the book after uploading it. On Internet Archive there is a later edition (I think of 1922 or 1923 which means it was reissued after the death of the author/compiler) and we might rather use that on Wikisource. I originally chose the 1917 edition purely because the year speaks to me (as the year of Russian revolutions) but it is not necessary to stick with it (suggesting that the later edition is better). They can have a row marker, it just needs to lead the template, not trail, so when it gets to the end of the page it isn't a problem. The others are fixed, and I did it that way as I needed to confirm and see the issues of the change. — billinghurst sDrewth 13:12, 25 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Tired of trying to follow you.

Why do you insist on doing stuff like this (create a new section by editing the one above it, either carrying over the wrong default summary prefix -or worse- a no summary at all)?

Can you understand how hard that makes it to do a simple history/watchlist thread check? How long it can take before I realize there is a new thread depending on how long between replies?

I welcome your participation on en.ws so I have to ask before I lose my mind and say something regrettable - are you aware most forums (like scriptorium) and talk pages (like this one) have an "ADD" or "Add topic" selection somewhere close to "Edit", "History" "More" etc. along the top of the page? Do you know using it automatically adds a new section after the current last one on that page? -- George Orwell III (talk) 01:43, 1 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Potential planning?

Hey ShakespeareFan00 -

Everyday I come to Cassell's History of England and I give a sigh because I see that more and more is proofread each day. I despair of the validation process because I prefer looking and correcting at non proofread pages and enjoy the deciphering of them. As such, I don't mean for this to be mean, but I don't want to be the validator of this work. It is a wonderful book and I was elated to see such a great number of volumes of it on here. But I want to proofread it... Can I suggest a strategy where you can validate the pages after I proof them first? I would be glad if we could do this... Maury could add in the pictures, I could proof it and then you could validate? - Tannertsf (talk) 22:17, 1 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Well, I hadn't planned on doing any proofing past Vol1 yet, I uploaded all the volumes so someone else could take the effort on, thanks for volunteeering. I have many other projects in the pipeline. Not least cleaning up a set of official figures for laying out UK road signs. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 22:55, 1 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Oh my goodness - those are exceptionally hard! I have usually drawn my line at complex formats and the old English style texts. Once had to read passages of old English texts for college, and just figuring out what they were saying took longer than writing their analysis! haha ... But if you have some works with more modern style English I would be happy to take a look at them. :) - Tannertsf (talk) 23:20, 1 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hello there

Actually, I pinged you on my talk page, but I'm not sure if pings work the same on Wikisource as on Wikipedia. I'm actually finding time to be more active here than I was a year or two ago, and in a few days should have proofed all of the remaining Index:Colas breugnon.djvu . So, I wanted to know if there is a category or other indicator where I can go in the near future to select something to work on. If anything is narrowed by subject matter, I'm probably more comfortable with literature in the English language. Maile66 (talk) 12:07, 30 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Stop it

Please stop proofreading The Rainbow. You are doing it over-quickly and frankly sloppily: going at a rate of one page per minute, you are making careless mistakes that could have been avoided if you had gone slower. Also you are not abiding by the chapter title style which I laid out explicitly on the Index talk: page.

On a personal level, it was my wish to proofread the book by myself and after doing 160 pages I had become quite attached to it. If you wish to validate it, fine, but be more careful, please. BethNaught (talk) 12:56, 5 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Based on your comments above, I've marked the pages you hadn't reviewed yet as not-proofread, but will back off from further contributions to this work. Template:Statute table/header

Some time ago you asked me:

Also there's a different issue here: Chronological Table and Index of the Statutes/Chronological Table/Edw1 namely some unexpected white-space at the lead. Someone else needs to throw the underlying templates in the bin and start the entire work again, manually entering each line of the table in full, as it seems that's going to be the only way of being really sure it will format properly, because having spent countless hours and days playing hunt "the whitespace in a template or transclusion, which the parser decides should be treated in three completely different ways depending on where its buried in a complex set of nested transclusions", I've had enough of trying to work around 'quirks'.

—ShakespeareFan00 22:55, 15 August 2016 (UTC)

and rather than lose this in the subsequent to-and-fro may I note that substituting <tr> for the final |- in Statute table/header seems to adequately address the issue.

You may have noticed I removed a couple of {{nop}}s experimentally in Page:Chronological Table and Index of the Statutes.djvu/30-35 but frankly they made no difference/did no harm and if you want to put them back for consistency I have no problems. /*Cassell's Illustrated History of England */

ShakespeareFan00, please feel free to edit whatever you want in Cassell's Illustrated History of England v.3 and I will also. We cannot - should not have to - wait for Tannersf on these volumes. I fully understand and feel what he wants but he is still on v.2 He does not work as we do. He has to take days off, days away, necessary things for family and friends. However, it would take forever to get all of the volumes done that way - and perhaps they wouldn’t ever get done because proofreading does take time which Tanner does not have a lot to spare. I like him a lot and consider him my friend but it is unreasonable for him to hold us up on every volume for 1 person’s desire to do them all by himself. I asked for and AdamBMorgan set these volumes up for me and I don’t want them to end up super slow or fast, or perhaps unfinished. —Maury (talk) 15:36, 21 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

I was currently OCR cleaning from the back of Vol2. as well. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 15:41, 21 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
This a basic as to what I meant. You have time and work on WS as do I. But Tanner is not here for whatever the reasoning and here is what concerns me - getting these volumes done - and done as proper as possible. I am headed back to working on images offline on my computer now which is what I was doing just before I wrote the above. BTW, the reason I once use all lower case letters in a caption was sheer curiosity as to what it would look like and nothing more. Cheers! —Maury (talk) 16:16, 21 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
ShakespeareFan00, If you are willing please resize images to way _you think is best_ and place them in a proper place in vol.2 Tanner will not do this because he prefers only "proofing" as he reads. —Maury (talk) 19:08, 21 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Good, please format page 26, I think it is, colored yellow, and then validate it. My editor will not format a page. I used to go around doing it for people over the past years as a break but something happened and will not format a page now, the text gets scattered.

Noting comments by you above, I don’t think you should work on more than two projects at the most. Isn’t 9 volumes of pages enough for you? Proofreading

"Not a suggestion as such, but this was cleaned up from direct OCR, and I'd appreciate a second proof-reader, checking for scan glitches."

Perhaps I have misunderstood? </Britishness> Your language "cleaned up from direct OCR" sounds like the TemplateScript "Clean up OCR" script. I checked a random page from the work in question and found several "scan glitches" as you call them. Granted, that page has very little text, but according to the timestamps, that page received only one minute of your attention, from, as you put it, direct OCR. Allowing time to drive the interface, I find it difficult to believe that you did more than apply a script and glance at the scan to see if e.g. italics needed adding. (You added italics, but didn't remove several stray punctuation marks, including a tilde, which should have been obvious in proofreading.) Let me ask you directly, did you do word-for-word, line-by-line proofing before marking these pages as proofread?

If the answer is no, is this really acceptable practice? Please do not suggest works to me for validation which have not been properly proofread. BethNaught (talk) 21:23, 22 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

I did read every single line, which is why I am dissapointed to hear that you are finding glitches.ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 21:33, 22 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
And on your comments, I am considering leaving this project, on the grounds that whilst reasonable the standard required is currently above my ability. You can hopefully fend off the angry comments from other people. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 21:37, 22 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
I believe that the quality of your proofreading could be massively improved if you did it more slowly. BethNaught (talk) 21:38, 22 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
Speed doesn't come into it. I've had this argument before, and I'm not prepared to have it again. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 21:40, 22 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
However, if you are prepared to support a status reset on this work, I have no objection to re-checking entire works(even previously validated ones.). When I went back over some earlier efforts I had been working on with others, I found some scan errors that had even been missed on a validation pass by a third party. :( (sigh. ). Can you suggest the names of some other contributors that might be willing to form a "re-read" panel, to help bring all works up to 100% non-printer errors?, ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 22:13, 22 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Time for a break?

Hi,

I think you need to take a break and come back when you're calm and thinking straight.

  • Suggesting BethNaught start a "Pedantic Scribes Wikiproject" is a passive-aggressive attack. I know what comes next: you declare that it was a good faith message, maybe a little clumsily worded, and then get upset that everyone misunderstands you and picks on you. Too bad, I'm calling it: you have made a passive-aggressive attack on BethNaught.
  • Telling a new user who is already in need of guidance that "you need to spend at least 5 minutes per page" is not helpful; it is only going to confuse them more. That is not the community's expectation. No-one does it. No-one demands it of their colleagues. Look, if you feel you've been victimised, and you want to sit back and enjoy that feeling, by all means do go ahead and exaggerate the community's expectations, make us out to be completely unfair and unreasonable. But do it in your own mind, or at least on your own talk page; don't do it on a newb's talk page! I urge you to remove that message.

Thanks, I've removed both messages. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 10:43, 23 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
Can we now get back to making sure things are actually proofread/validated? ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 10:46, 23 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
Side note do we have a {{wikibreak}} equivalent? ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 10:57, 23 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
Great; enjoy your break. Hope to see you back here soon.
Yes!
Apparently....

What is the point?

Today in Special:RecentChanges I see at least a hundred edits marked problematic and with no statement to why they are problematic ... no marking with {{missing image}}, no running header nothing. You have no work on the intervening pages, so it is not even pages that you encounter. What is the point of what you are doing? I am seeing no value in the editing at all. Such an approach pollutes RecentChanges. All this reeks of building an edit count, and little of value to the wiki. — billinghurst sDrewth 00:09, 27 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

In aummary, These were pages with image being added to Cassell as part of an onging effort, as I had been asked prviously to identify which pages had missing images. I was fully intending to edit these accordingly in the next few days (and will be doing so unless you want me to stop). If you would prefer that pages were not marked en-masse, then I can agree with that, but would strongly suggest the relevant policy guidance is updated accordingly ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 08:39, 27 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
I see no value in pointless editing, especially where it bombards recent changes. Pointless and rushed editing are themes that are returned to on multiple occasions. — billinghurst sDrewth 08:54, 27 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
So what do you actually want me to do? I was intending to carry on with the volume concerned, but had marked the disputed "pointless" pages, because others had asked me to. As I said previously, I am giving consideration to whether I continue to contribute here, if I am repeatedly going to get criticised. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 09:02, 27 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
Strike the above, ALL contributions need to be high quality, and I got called on this (twice). ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 14:27, 27 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
billinghurst, in the statements above, ShakespeareFan00 mentions "Cassell". That is a project I am doing and the 9 volumes were brought to wikisource by AdamBMorgan at my request of him long ago. I asked ShakespeareFan00 to please mark all image pages as problematic. I am doing all of the image work and I didn’t need "missing image" when those previously unmarked pages were not marked as "missing image" when the areas with images was colored purple. I did need the pages colored so I could spot the many image areas as opposed to searching for those areas. There are basically three constant workers on these 9 illustrated volumes of Cassell’s Illustrated History of England. We three divide the work up. In this project ShakespeareFan00 is helping me with what I asked him to do. He knows what to do from what we three agreed on. These are wonderful volumes and instead of getting in each other’s way and getting edit conflicts we are simply working together but yet setting up areas to help each other. No person needs to understand what we are doing because we know and we point out to each other if one of us strays from our agreement. This process has been working well so please do not get upset from your not knowing what we were doing. ShakespeareFan00 is doing what I have asked of him and he is doing it well. They are not mistakes. I placed many images in those colored "problematic" areas just minutes ago. If we didn’t have ShakespeareFan00 doing as he is asked by me or others we would suffer and the project of doing 9 illustrated volumes would then suffer or perhaps even collapse. Please ease up as we are interested in this English history and we have a long way to go. What are we doing wrong? Better yet, look at what we are doing right. These are some of the points you ask for. If any of those are not part of Cassell’s Illustrated History of England then that is a different situation that I know nothing about. As always - Respectfully, --Maury (talk) 12:16, 28 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

/* Cassell's series*/

ShakespeareFan00, would you please proofread (yellow) professionally (not fast) all pages _unmarked_ in volume 3? I don’t want you to disappear because you are a valuable contributor. Too, you have honed your skills in proofreading by going a bit slower and checking over your work. It apparently has become a habit. Nice! Cheerio, --Maury (talk) 01:20, 29 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Vol.3 p.270 not formatted, scattered text, I just now placed an image inside https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Page:Cassell%27s_Illustrated_History_of_England_vol_3.djvu/284 --Maury
Vol.3 page 282 not formatted
Vol.3 page 295 please validate-Maury
Vol.3 page 65 two or three misspellings please proofread-Maury
Vol.3 page 66 when I open the page I see lots of spaces, areas that are not formatted, do you look inside after you have saved as proofread? That might be where you make mistakes because you can see whether a page is fully formatted or not. P.66 is like that. It isn’t fully formatted. I am not complaining but rather trying to figure out why this happens to you. Something causes it and it may not be "speed". Have a cold beer my friend it may help :) -Maury
It may be to do with how your editor handles "line feeds" vs paragraph break. (easily solved.)

Internally mediawiki ignores certain line feeds in markup, as I recall. But thanks for reviewing :) ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 16:37, 29 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

I just now inserted an image (p.283) please validate it. Are you going to proofread all or some more of the untouched pages in volume 3. I wish you would. Tanner will be awhile on v.2 and we can probably finish v.3 soon. Then it is onward to v.4 --Maury (talk) 20:56, 29 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

  • No way is your new way better ref: cih_image|CROMWELL TAKING THE OATH AS PROTECTOR vs New way: Easier for you with many images but I have to add all of the rest for every image. My apologies the whole page confused me. You are correct and I was wrong when I stated you had marked that page as proofread. You did a good job cleaning it up and it’s "in the red" now. We have gotten a lot of pages and images done. When the time comes do you plan on doing the transclusion? It’s not a book (volume) until that is done -- just a bunch or colored squares. Cheers again ole chap, --Maury (talk) 05:19, 23 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
I was going to let someone else handle that. At the moment, I'm just making sure we have the whole text of the volume. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 07:47, 23 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
I think that is what most people do about transclusion and images. I don’t attempt to do transclusion either, it is too detailed and difficult;, but Tanner somehow got Volume I. done. I drink tea (or a coke or plain water, and I don’t like coffee). I prefer Tea cold except in winter when I prefer it very warm with a cinnamon stick to stir in it. I started that in a "Coffee House" listening to people play soft relaxing music in the 1960s. Anyhow, we can charge any of that also to Kathleen. --Maury (talk) 15:56, 23 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Can you steer away from working on a page I was just directly working on?! I mean, just a few hours ago I left it and now its totally edited. Please just leave this project alone... I have stated my intent of working on this project with very few people alongside me, and I despair to everyday see more and more pages being progressed by you and others. Extremely annoying! - Tannertsf (talk) 16:11, 7 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Ok. Thanks. I was reading through some of that this morning. - Tannertsf (talk) 16:29, 7 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Okay sorry about the raging this morning. I am one of those people who, despite being a good Christian most of the time, can blow a lot of steam when my day isn't going well. This time, it was the shock of seeing those v2 pages validated. I regret posting this message, but it just hurts when I see pages where I cannot proofread/format because someone else has already done it. But I know not everyone can not work on this series, because if they would like too, they can I guess. I just am afraid that any small work leads to someone doing 100+ pages in a short amount of time, and does those pages so well that I really don't have anything to add to them. That's my biggest fear. Again, I apologize, but I just want to be clear to people on how I feel. Tannertsf (talk) 00:05, 8 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

  • "Sweet Jesus" <>< Shakespeare was one of our most valuable contributors on the Cassell Volumes and far beyond proofreading and validating.

Tanner, are you aware that ShakespeareFan00 uploaded most all of those volumes? He had any kind of the rights to claim "personal project" rights on any that he uploaded. He just didn’t declare it. We all worked together at one point. Nobody is knocking any doors down to do any of those volumes anyhow - Nobody. It is even hard to get proofreaders, except you, and validators for a one whole volume of all those Cassell volumes that he uploaded. I have been working mostly on images because they need to be done, maybe not) and I dislike to proofread those terrible 2 columns because it is hard on my eyes. Is everybody getting dizzy from watching USA Politics? Tanner does not speak for me, Shakespeare (who did most all proofreading on vol.3), and I am ahead of Tanner only because of your and Kathleen’s kind help on that project. Farewell and Thank you. --Maury (talk) 04:06, 8 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

William Petty

Hi S,

glad that you marked Index:William_Petty_-_Economic_Writings_(1899)_vol_1.djvu and vol. 2. I suppose you did that because of the missing pages in the djvu-files. I did fix the missing pages in vol. 1. Could you check if it's ok now, please. I will also fix the missing pages in vol. 2 of course. But I do have one question: how could you see so rapidly that there were pages missing? In vol. 1 I had found out myself, when I was making the pagelist. But you found it also on vol. 2. Do you use a certain tool for that, or do you have a special technique for it? I would be happy to learn from you. Many greetings, --Dick Bos (talk) 12:42, 12 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Instruments of the Modern Orchestra

As you have taken over this work that I was part way through dealing with, I will leave it to you to sort out the scores and the images. I will be interested to see how you present it in the mainspace. Beeswaxcandle (talk) 05:38, 7 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Beeswaxcandle: My contribution was text based, I have no clue on how to do the scores.

Also did you want the instrument headers to be upper or Sentence case? ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 11:23, 7 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

It's no longer a matter of what I wanted. What I wanted to do was to quietly proofread this book, and work on the images/scores as I went—as my alternate project. However, you have taken over the work and I will move on to something else. To me, using images of the score snippets is unacceptable and the presentation of the work in the mainspace simply doesn't work. For example, look at the move from page 15 to page 16. HARP looks like a label for the double bass player. You've got a long way to go to make this work presentable. Beeswaxcandle (talk) 17:32, 7 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Beeswaxcandle: I am VERY disappointed that efforts made in good faith, were considered a "take over".

My question about text style above were a well-natured effort to ensure that the presentation style was consistent. I am giving consideration as to whether I ask for my entire efforts on this and other projects to be junked, so that you (or others more with more experience than me) can proceed with them to a tighter spec. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 17:53, 7 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Well, how should I interpret the situation when a page I left marked as "in progress" suddenly acquires templates, turns blue and all of its siblings fiddled with as well? I was clearly intending to return to it. Also, I had already expended some thought as how to best present this work. Clearly subpages wouldn't work (too broken up), but nor would a sequence of single pages down a page. As a result I was feeling my forward.
In respect of your last statement immediately above, throwing a tantrum and threatening to withdraw labour is not a solution that has ever worked well long term for anyone. Beeswaxcandle (talk) 18:38, 7 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
OK Deep Breaths all round. I've gone with a (sub) page per Instrument, partly because I was considering if something simmilar would work for a set of 128 pages on Wikibooks (one for each GM instrument).  :)

You are appear to to be html hyperventilating ...

Time to back off and come back in a few days once you have settled. You are running around like a chook with its head cut off. Missives here, missives there, and none of it is vital, nor does it look particularly urgent. So take some time away so you can approach this stuff with a rational head. None of it is that important, the world is safe, Wikisource is safe, the works have been published for over a hundred years and will remain unchecked; the page and main namespaces will be okay.
