Could someone please reload this file so we are without that faux lead and rotten colouration page that we pic up from the JP2 conversions. I do wish we could resolve that issue that they don't show in the upload bot, and voila/ugh there once converted and uploaded with the text pages out of kilter. Index:Bismarck and the foundation of the German empire (IA bismarckfoundati00head).pdf
Notifying all members of Scan Lab (more info · opt out): This index/scan is missing 2 images as per the TOC: "Princess Bismarck" after Page 88, and "Emperor William I" after Page 162. There should also be a blank page after these missing pages.
I stopped proofreading at Page 88 when I realized there is a missing image but forgot to update the status to "File to fix." Now another user has "proofread" most of the work which makes the task of adding the missing pages quite complicated. I have a PDF file now with the missing pages added but simply uploading that will cause a mess.
Could the pages between 88 and 162 (162 included) be moved forward by 2, and pages after 162 moved forward by 4? Or will a manual copy-paste be the best way? Ciridae (talk) 12:11, 13 June 2023 (UTC)
- @Ciridae: Just shifting the pages as you describe should not be a problem. Just go ahead and upload the new version of the file and drop a note here, and we should be able to get page moves done relatively quickly. Xover (talk) 09:18, 17 June 2023 (UTC)

- @Ciridae: Ok, I've regenerated a DjVu from the source scans with the missing pages patched in, and migrated everything over to Index:Bismarck and the Foundation of the German Empire (1899).djvu. Please check that I didn't mess up anything.PS. It's not a good idea to start editing, creating pages, etc. while I am actively working on it. - Xover: Thank you! It looks great. I was originally looking at this a long time ago (I think), and found the Sketches on Google Books, but the scan was blocked. I got over this copy to scan, and am glad I did, so I could get high-quality copies of the images. Your compressive abilities are quite impressive—the power of DJVU, alright! By the way, would you mind doing the same thing to A Forest Story (recently uploaded) and The Magic Flutes (currently uploading)? The Czech original of The Magic Flutes (Radovánky]) including the images was first published in 1927. So both originals are PD-US. As for the translations, they are both from 1929 and although there is a notice "all rights reserved", it lacks the symbol ©, and so if I understand it right it should not count as a proper copyright notice. If it does, it was not renewed anyway. That's quite a lot to untangle…But the images were first published in Czechoslovakia along with the Czech original text, in 1923 and 1927 respectively. These are thus PD in the US through expiry of a pub. +95 term. But both are still in a pma. 70 copyright term in the Czech Republic. The translations were first published in the US in 1929 (after the pub. +95 cutoff) but with defective copyright notices and, failing that, without renewal in the 28th year; and the translations are thus PD in the US and all countries that apply the rule of the shorter term. Worst case their US term will expire at the end of next year.So… All parts of these works are PD in the US and can be uploaded to enWS. How Henry Ford is regarded in Brazil

- @TE(æ)A,ea.: We're going to need the identity and vital years for Aubrey Stuart in any case, so you might as well start the research on that (Billinghurst might be able to help; they're an absolute genious at that kind of thing). I took a quick look at the scan and it looks like another one of those cases where it looks like it should be possible to automate it, but every time I think I've found ways to do that I've been disappointed and had to do it more or less manually (i.e. sloooooow and labour-intensive). I'll take a look at some point when I have the time available (IRL is keeping me busy just now), but you should probably be prepared for this taking some time (unless the tools actually come through for me this time).
